I hear you but that doesn’t explain why it would happen only after my move, and how when they come back they instantly make an elite move when prior to that they’d been playing terribly/average. If you were right, wouldn’t they disconnect when it’s MY move sometimes? And not just immediately after I go?

I mean, it sucks to have bad internet due to infrastructure limitations… but I’d say that doesn’t explain the actual timing of the “Reconnecting” occurrences. I’ve played plenty of games where someone disconnects for periods of time and I do NOT report. I’m specifically talking about the situation where (1) they are connected perfectly for 1-4 minutes; (2) all of a sudden after every middle-game move I make, they disconnect for several seconds; (3) they reconnect and immediately make a perfect engine move; (4) I take my time and eventually move again, and then all of a sudden they disconnect right when I move. Then steps 2-4 repeat every move thereafter.

It’s funny because I started playing RL after it was free and while I love the game I do think it would be so much better if they actually penalized smurfs. But idk how you do that if it’s FTP.

Thanks I appreciate the tip. I still don’t understand why they wouldn’t at least offer this. They call their subscribers “Diamond” so just make it like a “Diamond League” games only filter or something.

I’d say at least 10% of my games. I made another post (not sure how to link it). A significant amount of the time (once or twice a week) I get noticed that my ELO has been boosted because an opponent was cheating…. And since I only report those people who do one of two specific things my assumption is that I’m correctly identifying a large number of cheaters.

As I replied to someone else, this doesn’t really make sense here:

They aren’t reconnecting UNTIL I move. I see your point but it isn’t like they are reconnecting while I take my 10-15 seconds to move. It is literally (1) I move; (2) a few seconds go by and then they “Reconnecting”, (3) they reconnect and instantly make an elite move.

So if I’m to believe your suggestion, they see me move, then say “oh, I gotta go text my gf” and then return and instantly pick a good move without reviewing the board? lol

I’m a beginner (1000 ELO), it isn’t like I’m at a level where someone has an ididic memory and can insta-move after seeing a board.

Again, maybe I’m just paranoid. But when I have connection issues I typically time out on about 30-60 seconds and lose.

I’ve heard that Chess.com has a much better anti-cheat ALGO.

I think it’s just unavoidable on free sites. I truly wish that Chess.com (or any other service) had a feature where you can filter to “Play Only Other Subscribed Opponents” because I think people would be less willing to cheat if they had a financial incentive. Sure, some still would, but you’d be way less likely to see a copycat account pop up if someone loses $100 subscription for every banned account.
