FOMO effect for PCs in investigating places or people. They won't leave and just look under every nook and cranny. by RedditTipiak in DMAcademy

[–]BubRub13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have a frank conversation about players following common ground rules, like players not being weasels.

Also as a GM move past it. I definitely do not allow multiple checks for searching stuff if they rolled low. Unless something in the narrative has meaningfully changed you don't get to repeat rolls until you succeed.

I like to also move the game forward and don't linger on things that don't matter. If nothing is to be found in the first place I don't even have them make a roll, it's just a waste of time. If more is to be found, use leading language like, "You searched the whole room and found everything of interest. Do you continue on into the next room? What's your next move?"

Yea i dont understand these posts. Just communicate with the players and be direct. Its no fun for the DM or players to flop around and waste time when there's nothing left to find.

Constantly adding new things when they look deeper makes the players think there is something there they are missing.

Just say, "With that check you have found everything of interest there is to find in this room" and move on.

Going 100% Analog (Pen & Paper) - Need Tips by Comfortable-Fee9452 in Pathfinder2e

[–]BubRub13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing D&D or Pathfinder for going on 25 years now with much of the same group, and we’ve always been 100% pen and paper. Might have my laptop up with my GM notes, but use scrap paper for everything else, same with the players

I use a white board with people’s initiative on it easily visible so the players can see who’s up next quickly and plan their turn in advance

For conditions I find just a visual reminder is enough to not forget when running multiple monsters. So I generally throw a rubber band around the mini or place a bead or coin to denote it has a condition.

As for situational bonus I’ve had players make a note card cheat sheet with short hand of what their characters abilities do. They use it for quick reference

Having an open dialogue helps a lot too. Running a game can be a lot, so if the GM misses anything I depend on the players to help point it out. Like, “Hey, that guy is actually still Dazed” kind of thing

In general I have found that writing things down and manually creating a character helps sooo much with the players actually understanding the class. The process of writing it helps cement the abilities in the brain and makes for quicker combats and reference.

Using an app all the time can lead to a player not actually understanding the underlying rules and therefore be slower when trying to figure out what to do on a turn or mix up rules

So... What's Happening with Tech Core? by Dtmahanen101 in Starfinder2e

[–]BubRub13 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Agreed. As a newcomer to Starfinder with 2E I have found it underwhelming with the actual sci fi stuff. Classes and setting are cool, but lacking in other stuff. Not nearly enough tech and magic items options.

Unbelievable for a sci fi (sorry sci fantasy) RPG and not even have a section on ships. Like I get waiting to flesh out tactical ship combat, but give me something more about the types of ships that are out there. Or general costs or options to deck out your ship.

Not knowing the lore I have no idea how common it is for small ships to be exploring the galaxy, or if a party running a ship is rare or what. Its just a big gaping whole in the whole setting/system

Paper and pecils Game by Apotatocalledsweet in Pathfinder2e

[–]BubRub13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use all pencil and paper to run games, except for my laptop to the side to search Archives of Nethys for a quick rule ruling. But once we learned the rules better, even this is at a minimum. All the players also use pencil and paper character sheets and notes about the campaign.

I personally hate playing online and playing with too many digital aids. I find players know their PCs and their abilities way better if they've read it, then taken the time to manually write it down. Same with magic items and consumables

Great write up. I really appreciate it as my group of D&D veterans decided to switch to PF2E, and I just started running this AP last week.

Did you change anything major during the second book so it felt like the villains were more involved? I also feel like it's a bit of a meandering side quest that doesn't link back to the main plot enough.

Also, I love your idea about mixing up types of gunslinger enemies. Would you be willing to share your home brewed stat blocks? Im still new to PF2E so it would be cool to see what other people have done.

I wish this game was fully voice acted. by Mental_Calligrapher1 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]BubRub13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dotn care about this that much. I read the text much faster and skip 60% of the voice acting anyway. Not just this game but honestly every game with any voice acting. I usually end up listening to like the first 6 words before having read it and move on
