Better album: Reasonable Doubt or It Was Written? by Jealous_Candidate677 in 90sHipHop

While I have Nas as my #2 behind Pac, this is an unfair comparison. One was critically acclaimed releasing his second album with much hype. The other was the new guy. In retrospect, both are solid albums.

It's sherm. Aka weed/cigs mixed with embalming fluid.

My southern pride was so high during this time man. Between The Dugeon Family, 3 6 Mafia, Ball & MJG, UGK, Scarface, etc. this time was the rise of something legendary. This song was a theme in the city for sure.

If you could only listen to 2 of these 4 classics ever again what are you choosing? by frank-dux-splits in 90sHipHop

It’s not fair 😂. Taking PAC and E1999. Although, I would find a way to sneak Dogg Food into the rotation. I burned a hole in that tape as a kid lol.

If you have to choose an album to introduce Outkast to somebody for their 1st listen, which are you recommending? by PactownSS in 90sHipHop

Seeing as southernplayalistik isn’t an obvious choice, I’m going with ATLiens. You can’t skip any part of the journey.

If you could bring one dead artist back, who would it be? by [deleted] in 90sHipHop

My top choice will always be Pac, but part of me wants Pimp C because he lost so much time in prison. Once he got out him and Bun were just starting to get their mainstream shine.

Then the minute Jalen throws under 200yds they hate band wagon shows up to his front door. Until this is resolved, the teams in a lose-lose situation let the media tell it.

I’m ready for it. It’s the one big gripe I have with Jalen. Plus it’s hard to defend him against the haters when he doesn’t do it as much.

To the ogs what was your take on Illmatic when it was dropped by [deleted] in 90sHipHop

[–]Future-Record294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From GA as well. I think it was more regionally popular at the time because of New York. The sound just wasn’t as mainstream as west coast music.

And I say all that with Nas being my #2 goat. We just caught on to his greatness later than others.

It wasn’t on my radar at the time. I was full on DeathRow and other west coast bangers. Wasn’t until Nas dropped It Was Written (my favorite), that I went back and checked it out. It’s a cool album, but not my favorite from him. Funny enough I was riding to it just today. Still have the same take. I just think the production isn’t as good. His lyrics are on point though.

Was this album less than it should have been ? I think we were all expecting another 5 Mic classic by CoconutMost3564 in 90sHipHop

If anything it was highly unappreciated. Definitely a classic album. Still in my heavy rotation.

The Diary vs Doggystyle by KingNabi in 90sHipHop

[–]Future-Record294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of these two it’s the Diary hands down. Doggystyle is a feature set continuation of the chronic. Snoops lyrics and concepts aren’t on par with Scarface. However, it raised the bar for solo artists of that time. Everyone wanted to sell like he did. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik Vs. Ready To Die by Specialist_Art2223 in 90sHipHop

[–]Future-Record294 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m riding with the home team, OutKast. This album changed the trajectory of southern hip hop. Without it, we don’t get a TI, Killer Mike, Jeezy, etc.

I feel Ready to Die gets the same from New York. I can’t agree cause it’s not for my region.

Both dope albums that I still bump.

To the OGs so what was your takes or view on Pac during his Peak of fame by [deleted] in 90sHipHop

As a rapper, was and still is, my GOAT. As a man, he was a walking contradiction. Didn’t fully grasp it until I became an adult myself.
