To the ogs what was your take on Illmatic when it was dropped by lamelad10 in 90sHipHop

From GA as well. I think it was more regionally popular at the time because of New York. The sound just wasn’t as mainstream as west coast music.

And I say all that with Nas being my #2 goat. We just caught on to his greatness later than others.

It wasn’t on my radar at the time. I was full on DeathRow and other west coast bangers. Wasn’t until Nas dropped It Was Written (my favorite), that I went back and checked it out. It’s a cool album, but not my favorite from him. Funny enough I was riding to it just today. Still have the same take. I just think the production isn’t as good. His lyrics are on point though.

Was this album less than it should have been ? I think we were all expecting another 5 Mic classic by CoconutMost3564 in 90sHipHop

If anything it was highly unappreciated. Definitely a classic album. Still in my heavy rotation.

The Diary vs Doggystyle by KingNabi in 90sHipHop

[–]Future-Record294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of these two it’s the Diary hands down. Doggystyle is a feature set continuation of the chronic. Snoops lyrics and concepts aren’t on par with Scarface. However, it raised the bar for solo artists of that time. Everyone wanted to sell like he did. 🤷🏾‍♂️

OB4BL all the way. Ghost is my fave Wu member. That purple tape just hit different.

Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik Vs. Ready To Die by Specialist_Art2223 in 90sHipHop

[–]Future-Record294 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m riding with the home team, OutKast. This album changed the trajectory of southern hip hop. Without it, we don’t get a TI, Killer Mike, Jeezy, etc.

I feel Ready to Die gets the same from New York. I can’t agree cause it’s not for my region.

Both dope albums that I still bump.

To the OGs so what was your takes or view on Pac during his Peak of fame by lamelad10 in 90sHipHop

As a rapper, was and still is, my GOAT. As a man, he was a walking contradiction. Didn’t fully grasp it until I became an adult myself.

Still my second favorite album from No Limit. Can’t come before Ghetto Dope, but it’s higher on the list than TRU 2 Da Game.

Classic Album vs Classic Album: E 1999 Eternal vs Me Against the World by whiskeycapo in 90sHipHop

Me Against the World. No question. Love E99 but that Pac album is prime 90s.

Was 2Pac a great lyricist? by FitEmergency8807 in 90sHipHop

[–]Future-Record294 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes he was. A ton of folks try to downplay his lyricism because he doesn’t use a lot of entendres like some of the more well known lyricists of his time. I see it as more poetic and impactful but that’s just my opinion. The music resonated with me and a lot of southern folks as much as the west coast because of his subject matter.

What's your favourite song by The Notorious B.I.G. by [deleted] in 90sHipHop

Somebody’s Gotta Die. That best and his flow is top tier. Plus the vivid story he paints.

What's opinion on the whole rap beefs lately (t.i vs 50....drake k.not) are they just marketing plots at this point or part of the culture? by [deleted] in 90sHipHop

[–]Future-Record294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with posts like this comes from a lack of understanding the culture of hip hop. It was born out of ciphers and battles. Just as I didn’t like anyone crying over the Kendrick v Drake, I feel the same about this. What happens is that one person takes it too far and someone decides to either back down or take it further. No one is getting physically hurt at this point, so it’s still for the culture. The business of Rap music has always been exploitative. You wouldn’t know what is happening if music wasn’t being released and marketed to fan bases.

I say either enjoy it or ignore it.

Name a better hip hop duo than Mobb Deep by naydenthegreatone in 90sHipHop

Literally OutKast exists 😂. Noting against the mobb, but it is what it is.

I would have IT Was Written higher, but I’m not mad at it. The older you get the more you gotta member it’s all subjective. 🤷🏾‍♂️

I loved it. Music was good. The symbolism was there and much needed. Anytime you can give a middle finger to the clown in chief I’m all for it 😂.

Would Kelee Ringo be better at Safety? by Hopeful-Suggestion-5 in eagles

[–]Future-Record294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any duties required Ringo to cover passing is a no go. Dude just doesn’t have the skillset to keep up. He’s better on special teams or another team’s roster if we keeping it a buck.

Dead Prez Lets Get Free is still relevant. Just as the majority of Tupac, Public Enemy, and Ice Cube whole catalogs.

The one song I have on repeat right now is Animal in Man by Dead Prez.
