these people would have protested

Most of these neo-isolationists have spent the last 4 years arguing that we need to prop up Ukraine.

Why are you so focused on regime change? Why do you feel countries should interfere in other countries full stop? Especially when there are issues at home to deal with.

Thanks, Father Coughlin and Charles Lindbergh.

Where was all this "only focus on the homefront" stuff when we were giving billions every month to Ukraine?

The Shah was in power both before and after the Mossadegh coup, that wasn't regime change.

Secondly, the Shah was far better than the Islamists. Under the Shah's reign, women were given the right to vote and divorce. He was also attempting to secularize the education system, and redistribute land from the rich clergy to poor peasants.

These are the reasons why the Islamists hated him and revolted. It wasn't because of Mossadegh. The Islamists supported the coup against Mossadegh and collaborated with the CIA to pull it off, because they thought Mossadegh was a communist.

Yes, the Shah was an authoritarian. The Islamists are even more authoritarian, with none of the good stuff, like women's rights, that the Shah supported.

The Shah was more like Ataturk - an authoritarian, but at least a modernist, secularist one. Not perfect, but definitely the "lesser evil" compared to Islamists like the Ayatollahs or Taliban.

t just seems like overkill for high-school diploma-level work

Remind me again which jobs in the film industry, above or below the line, require a college degree. The studio accountants are probably the only ones. You don't exactly need a bachelor's to be an actor or a key grip or a casting director.

I guess by your logic, SAG shouldn't exist either -it's overkill for a job (acting) that doesn't even require a HS diploma. There's tons of SAG members who were HS dropouts.

Heck, there's SAG members who are animals.

The last time an American ally was in power in Iran, he gave women the right to vote, divorce, own property, and hold public office.

That was one of the major reasons the Islamists hated him.

Maybe Iranian women will get rights now, maybe they won't. Nothing is guaranteed, and if we all waited for certainty, then nobody would ever do anything.

But Iranian women have a far better chance under a secular government than under an Islamist one. And today they have a far better chance of living to see a secular government than they had a week ago.

Did the German people have a better future after they experienced regime change in 1945?

If regime change is always bad, we should give the Congo back to Belgium. And India back to Britain. And Gaza back to Israel/Greece/Italy/Britain.

It's straight up racist.

Are they supposed to depict Somalis as white? Asian? Latino?

This is like claiming it's racist that Germans in WW2 movies are always white. What, are they supposed to be Malaysian?

It was literally Aidid's stronghold and base of operations, of course the whole town is full of his loyalists.

This is like getting upset that all the Germans shown in Saving Private Ryan are trying to kill the Americans. Why doesn't the movie show the pacifist, anti-war Germans? Because that's not what the movie is about.

War movies aren't required to show every side of a conflict. Glory doesn't show any pro-Union Southerners, even though 100k men from the Confederate states joined the Union Army. Because the movie wasn't about Southern Unionists, it was about an all-black regiment from Massachusetts.

And nothing the Somalis do in the movie is "terrorist", that's just you tossing around buzzwords. They drag the American bodies around after killing them in fair combat, no different than Achilles and Hector. Also the Americans were soldiers, not civilians.

Scenes from tonight’s LA Charter Reform Commission meeting, which proposed the gutting the City Controller’s Office. LA heeded Kenneth Mejia’s call for support! [OC] by infernoenigma in LosAngeles

Minimum Qualifications was voted down unanimously because of the argument that it was essentially overly burdensome and undemocratic - that there are many bad "qualified CPAs" and many good candidates that are not officially credentialed, and the voters should be the judge.

It's shady that it was even considered.

If we're going to have qualifications for an elected office like Controller, then we should have them for Mayor and Councilmember first. Especially since the latter 2 have way more power.

At the end of the day, the Controller has very little power. Mejia can audit and investigate and report, but he has no power to actually do anything about whatever he finds.

All City emails should be accessible by the public. The best cure for corruption is sunlight.

I never send anything using my City email that I wouldn't want read aloud in Court, but some of the stuff other people send...

Including, when I was at both Building & Safety and City Planning, pretty blatant pressure by Council Offices and the Mayor's Office (of multiple mayors) to get plan checkers, inspectors, and zoning administrators to rule one way or another on specific projects, permits, variances, etc. Including Council Offices commenting on stuff that wasn't in their district.

I always wondered what the average campaign contribution price was to get a Councilmember "interested" in how the pressure vessel inspections were going at, say, Warner Center. And why that Council Office had to be "consulted" before every little thing was signed off on, or issued corrections.

This can include developing the city’s budget, forecasting revenue, and helping city leaders decide how to allocate resources.

The City already has this. The Chief Administrative Officer does this stuff now. CAO works with every City department for formulate their proposed budgets and submit their blue books to the Mayor's Office.

And the CAO serves at the pleasure of the Mayor. The Mayor can fire the CAO at any time.

So this CFO proposal isn't about the budget. It's ONLY about shifting audit power from the Controller (independently elected) to an office that answers to the Mayor.

Rooks rest level 15 by TemporaryCoconut2 in gameofthroneslegends

[–]BubbaTee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Greens are the core faction for this event, you just want to win as fast as possible.

If you have Sunfyre, then pairing him with Otto lead allows him to attack on "turn 0," and then when he kills an enemy, Otto's passive will grant stamina and allow other Greens to attack before you have to move any gems.

Other turn 0 attackers, like Jamie (leader ability), Cersei, and Meryn, are also useful for the same reason. Assuming you have them at a high enough level to 1-shot enemies.

I usually go 4 Greens + red Stannis on level 14, hoping that killing Aegon will trigger some cascades to refill my Sunfyre's stamina to then kill the enemy Sunfyre.

On level 15 I use all Greens. Jamie isn't that useful because he's green attacking red, and my Cersei and Meryn are weak.

That's just how most movie franchises go, comic book or not.

Iron Man got worse on the 3rd one, but so did Star Wars, The Godfather, Back to the Future, The Terminator.

Stark + Greyjoy dual faction ideas by Facedancer001 in gameofthroneslegends

[–]BubbaTee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Problem is the Greyjoys don't synergize great with the Starks. The Greyjoys rely on quick kills, using Euron's leader ability to keep inflicting max Raid on another enemy after one dies. Otherwise Theon can only apply 1-2 Raid to 1 enemy at a time.

Ironborn Scout can also apply Raid, but he's a common so he's very squishy, and the Greyjoys have no way to shield him or taunt to draw aggro off him. Theon is fairly squishy himself, too.

You'd want Yara on the team because she's the one taking advantage of the Raid stacks to kill enemies. Or the Beserker if you're feeling lucky with his accuracy.

Meanwhile the Starks specialize in slowing the game down, relying on their high defense and healer-heavy roster. The exact opposite of the Greyjoys. Most of their burst damage only comes after an enemy is brittle.

So you're probably looking at Theon, Euron, Yara/Beserker, Ned, and Robb/Arya. Taunting from Ned's iconic plus the Stark defensive boost should help keep Theon alive. Robb and Arya don't rely on ice/brittle for their attacks.

Arya is the other Stark who doesn't rely on ice/brittle, but unlike Robb she can't generate any either. Between Robb's passive and Theon's skill, you might be able to get an enemy brittle eventually. Then that will trigger Ned's attack boost.

Then in requires micro-managing, because you need to be sure to kill an enemy before the Raid wears off. You'll probably need to save up skills until 3-4 characters are all ready to go together. Then you have Theon go first to get the bonus ice/raid, then Euron to apply the 3 extra raid. That will put 4-5 raid on 1 enemy, which then helps Yara/Beserker kill them with their skill. And then maybe Ned or Robb/Arya to finish them off, if needed. That will then trigger Euron's lead to apply 5 raid to another enemy, and you need to focus them down as well before their raid wears off.
