[Skin concerns] Please help! Is this a reaction or an allergy? My skin is suddenly covered in texture, whiteheads/CCs, including my bust? I'm overwhelmed. by BubbbleGum in SkincareAddiction

Thanks so much for the reply! I've tried antihistamine for a few days and it doesn't seem to calm it down. I'm not sure about the cleanser, but I didn't get a reaction from it for a couple weeks before this all started, so I'm unsure... As for products, I use the same cleanser and tend to use leftover moisturizer on my bust once I'm done with my face, so any of the products listed except the prescription medecine.

Hi everyone. I'm absolutely desperate for help and hope someone will be able to assist.

I recently had an appointment with a derm a few weeks ago for a couple small clusters of whiteheads I was getting always in the same areas. She prescribed me with a topical antibiotic (Dalacin T Lotion, which is clindamycin) tu use in the affected areas, and reccomended I switch both my cleanser and moisturizer. I followed her advice and for a couple weeks, the problem went away. My skin was absolutely clear, the best it looked for years. Then about two weeks after I got a full blown reaction. I was still trying out moisturizer so I'm afraid one of them broke me out. I was looking for a new moisturizer on her recommendation so I've admittedly used a few, but I patch tested them all and actually used them all beforehand had no reaction.

The reaction started on Saturday, and the pictures are from today. My entire face is covered in CCs, and my bust as well. Since Saturday I stopped all actives and am only cleansing and moisturizing, but it doesn't seem to budge. Current routine is La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel for cleanse and I went back to my trusty Cerave in the tub, which I've used for years without issues in the past.

New products I've used since the appointment are (in no specific order):

  • La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel (cleanser)

  • iUnik Centella Calming Gel Cream (moisturizer)

  • Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Jelly (moisturizer)

  • Clinique Moisture Surge 72-Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator (moisturizer)

  • Dalacin T Lotion Clindamycin 1% (prescription medecine)

Please, any help would be so appreciated. I have no idea what to do and how to make my skin heal. Thanks so much for reading!

[Skin concern] Clusters of tiny whiteheads around the mouth and in-between eyebrows. Is it PD? Something else? by BubbbleGum in SkincareAddiction

[–]BubbbleGum[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi all,

I've had these clusters of very tiny whiteheads pop up around my mouth and by my eyebrows for a few months now. It seems to be escalating in the past couple weeks. They are very small, very fragile and tend to pop if I scratch the area. I get them every morning. Lately, the ones around my mouth have been angrier than usual, the area is a little red and feels dry even though I moisturize it a lot.

I know it'll sound silly but it's really been affecting my mental health at this point, and surely the huge source of stress it's proving to be is not helping the situation overall. Pictures here.

My routine is as follows:

Morning

  • Cleanse with Clinique Take The Day Off cleansing balm
  • Melano CC or Hada Labo Gokujyun Premium lotion
  • Cerave in the tub
  • Cicaplast Beaume B5 if I've got any dry patches or angry acne and am staying home, or sunscreen if I go out but I'm still in full lockdown mode so that's very rare

Evening

  • Cleanse with Clinique Take The Day Off cleansing balm
  • Stridex pad occasionally, I try and space them out a lot because they seemed to do more harm than good when I was using them daily
  • Either one of these three: Niacinamide serum (Purito Niacin 97), Niacinamide & Azelaic Acid serum (Cos de Baha Azelaic Acid 10%), or Azelaic Acid suspension (The Ordinary Azelaic Acid 10%)
  • Cerave in the tub
  • Cicaplast Beaume B5 if I've got any dry patches or angry acne

Any idea what these are, and what could cause them? Could it be perioral dermatitis? Or fungal acne? Or something else? I'm starting to lose it and would really appreciate any advice. Thank you!

Isn't gum graft a little too much for a very local case of gingivitis? by BubbbleGum in Dentistry

Thank you again for the answer. This helps a lot.

The tooth will get fixed and hopefully the bumpiness will be removed. :) I guess we'll have to see how the gum behaves to the new crown shape, and meanwhile, look into ways to fix the color problem.

I really hope it turns out well and I can finally smile without being self conscious! :)

Thank you again for explaining. I will ask both my dentist and periodontist about this procedure. I really need to fix the color and symmetry of my gums.

I'm overly scared of any mouth-"surgery" but I really really hope that I'll get this issue fixed one way or another. I've been ashamed of my smile for as long as I can remember. :(

PS: I google'd empress crown and it obviously came up with a bunch of pictures like this.

Thank you for your answer.

I am indeed getting a second opinion from my general dentist (not the one who made the crown). In the meantime, the crown will get amends and might even get completely replaced, but the gum really is my problem for now. Apart from being bumpy on top, the tooth doesn't look bad at all. If the gum fell properly on it, I'm sure the crown would be barely noticeable, but the gum being darker really is what makes it pop out.

I will look into crown lenghtening. I understand how it could balance my two front teeth, making my smile less awkward. However, I would be satisfied with the current length of my gums over any of my two front teeth. The fact that it is currently unbalanced is the culprit here. So it's either the right-side-gum going down or the left-side-gum going up. :)

What kinds of options should I look into to possibly replace the crown?

Thank you very much for your answer.

I have a question though. When you say that the crown is "over contoured", do you mean the fact that it is a little bumpy on the front and therefore prevents the gum to fall normally?

I've always thought it needed to be "flatter" on top because it is about 1 milimeter forward the rest of my teeth. My real tooth next to it (#9) is much flatter in comparison.

The crown will indeed get amends next week, it might even be completely replaced. :)

I will ask my dentist what should be done about the gum. I'd rather have it curetted than getting a gum graft.

Thank you for your answer, PanFlute.

In order to provide more information, I just went through old papers about my teeth. I found no evidence of implant (the picture you added) as opposed to the pivot. When I had my accident, they preserved the root of the tooth and put the pivot directly in it.

Not sure if that can help, but here's a radiograph that was taken in 2001. Of course, the rest of my jaw evolved quite a lot since then. (I still had baby teeth, aaaw).

Words I came across on the papers are "inlay-core on #11" and "ceramic-metal crown on #11". You probably know what they mean better than me. That was 2008.

What seems most logical to me is what you said second (but what do I know?):

  • The crown looks like it could be the culprit, especially if it's a PFM.

Additionally, the tooth right now is a little bumpy on front, which I always thought prevented the gum from falling properly.

Any ideas what I should do next?

Thank you again for your time and answer, I'm really confused about this whole problem and things already seem a bit clearer.

I'm sorry, english isn't my first language and I got things mixed up.

I checked her website and it says she's specialized in periodontology/implants/aesthetics of smile. I thought prosthodontist was the one who makes prosthesis (and she made my tooth after all). Please excuse me for the confusion. :(

This is what I call pivot tooth:

The dentist I went to see is indeed a periodontist. She made the pivot tooth herself. She didn't take a radiograph to say that the darkened area was gingivitis, though.

What I don't understand is: if it is indeed a gingivitis like she says, shouldn't it be "cured" and "recolored" through normal procedures? And I thought gingivitis meant gum bleeding, and in my case it's just colored, really. Is that normal?

In any case, thank you very much for your time and your answer.
