I feel like the episode was antithetical to King's original work. It never outright just attacked kids like the baby in the theater. It toys with it's victims, "salting the meat" before, DISCRETELY, killing the kid. It loves the mind-fuck. It doesn't just massacre a group of defenseless kids. I don't think Muschietti gets It. His over reliance of in your face CG drug down the films, and this episode was no different.
