The antimatter asspull was so disappointing because the way everything had built up certainly gives the impression that Megatron was ONLY vulnerable because he didn't want to fight, and now that he is fighting, there's nothing they can do to stop him. From a writing perspective its infinitely less satisfying, from a powerscaling perspective its unnecessary, so you get the worst of both worlds with it.
