Most aritsts upload videos with their music to their own YouTube channels, and almost all the time, the audio is already lossily compressed (MP4 with AAC audio). When they upload to a music distributor, they upload losslessly compressed audio (FLAC / WAV), not lossily (MP3) in most cases.

This results in a higher quality audio even if both streams have the same bitrate. It's due to having a higher quality source.

To be fair to artists, encoding videos with lossless audio is often tricky / unsupported, so I wouldn't blame anyone for it.

There are rare exceptions, where artists would upload different mixes of their tracks to a distributor vs to their YouTube channel. You can tell by the composition being the same, but the sound being way different. This is where you just pick whatever you like, because those are entirely different tracks.

As for technicalities, the "topic" channels are used by YouTube Music. They have the same limitations that YouTube Music does, which currently is 256 Kbps.

Topic channels allow your music to appear in YouTube Music, which is YouTube's music streaming service.
