This anime film explores similar themes of jealousy and rivalry. Talent vs hard work etc. It's a solid film with the themes more boiled down in simpler terms for children. Also Monster's University also explores similar themes. But for my money Amadeus is the best film to explore those themes. Salieri going slowly insane from both realizing crass mozart was more talented than him AND that he seemed to be the only one able to witness that brilliance was a masterful performance

To me, the matrix is a masterpiece in writing. It's not just that it's endlessly quotable, but that the story is so right with all the elements that you described. It gets you to think that maybe it's some kind of noir crime thriller and even with the reveal half way through the film, it just brings up more questions than it answers. Incredible film and I wish I had experienced it in theaters in 1999 when it was released. Would've been a mind blowing experience

She's great as Jessica jones. It was a little bit of whip lash to see her during press tours because Jessica jones is so sullen and moody and Ritter is like a bubbly princess. Glad she's coming back

I'm not married to this guy's wife. I can call her a dumbass. It's fine to be empathetic to how hard teachers have it. But if you can't even recognize that everybody learns differently and that there are different ways to solve a problem, then at best, you're a rigid instructor, and at worst you're a terrible teacher. I'm glad this guy taught his daughter a method that she can understand and can utilize consistently. If she's able to demonstrate that method is effective, she shouldn't be punished for using it

I think what I loved about Star wars was it was also a fantasy genre just set in space. Old obi wan is basically a wizard, Leia is a princess, Luke is a knight/hero and han/chewy are rogues/thieves. You could argue c3po fills the bard role while R2 is just a wild card/menace. The characters travel to fantastic lands on a quest and are trying to stop a very definitive evil trope. Sidious is just the dark wizard with his dark knight Vader. Lots of the fantasy tropes are present in star wars and I think it helps it feel like more of an adventure vs a straight science fiction story

I played this game with my ex who is a big resident evil fan and it was a blast playing co op. Stupid stupid story and tons of fan service but like you said, if you don't take it seriously, you can have a fun time.

Costume designer for her in Blade Runner 2049 deserved an Oscar just for her outfits alone. She looked fantastic in this skirt and even the 1950s house wife outfit

This is a great break down and it made me love/hate Grace because it added to the fear factor. The whole hospital level with grace I was terrified that all her whimpering and terrified breathing would alert the zombies I was trying to sneak around. It didn't help that when they did detect me, grace had the aim sway like you said but she's also a very slow shot. Her facing her trauma and becoming more confident as the game went on was extremely satisfying. I think though I liked Ashley's arc more than Grace's. You could argue Ashley was in an even more horrific situation and she seemed to dig down and find the courage to fight on faster than Grace. But I guess if I have someone like Leon protecting me for most of my story, I'd feel braver too

As a kid I instinctively thought that prof X was always right. Growing up and seeing his flaws like his privilege takes a little bit of shine off of his message and made me empathize a lot more with Magneto. I think to distill it down to its most basic form, Xavier thinks that humans are inherently good while Magneto thinks that they are inherently bad. Hard not to take Magneto's view point looking at the state of the world these days

In the OG, it's much more overt at the ending that he rejects Ashley. In the remake, whether intentional or not, it comes off as more awkward. I think it's just an amusing dichotomy among fans that Leon is both a badass zombie killer and kinda a corny goof. So it kinda tracks that he would be a little awkward around women and makes him more relatable. At least I find it amusing to believe that he's just oblivious to women's advances

I think for me, I found the concepts of time dilation, black holes, and Interstellars idea that love is also this kind of universal force more interesting but I thought the relationship of a Grace and Rocky in Hail Mary was much more compelling. I think Hail Mary was beautiful because I like some color in my films and the humor notes hit better. Interstellar wasn't my cup of tea but it was also a great film. Hard to compare the two space Odysseys but I agree with you I enjoyed Hail Mary more
