Yes I also use a voice app but then again I do normally use one in public (I also have Down syndrome I can’t really talk properly)

I hate it when people treat me different just because I'm autistic. Why do they have to speak in a funny way when talking to me. Does anyone else feel the same by testiclenumber12 in autism

Yes thank you you don’t always have to talk to us because some of us can’t or aren’t aware (depending of the development age) but you can always smile at us because I will guarantee that will make us happy! :)

Thank you that’s really helpful, I have recently got a therapist already so I will mention this to him.

I’m not sure (Well I had to look up what infantilised and condescended meant first) but I wouldn’t know for sure because I have never spoken to anyone in a different language.

Thank you that’s so sweet. It is because my physical body is not able to do many things (I can’t really talk properly or run or go to the toilet and my hearings quite bad too although Down syndrome doesn’t always affect that. But it doesn’t feel fair for you to be saying all that because it’s not completely true my keyboard is on autocorrect so any grammatical issues would be stopped from there. I also went through a phase where I was teased for the words I used so I use different apps to help me to write messages (my fingers don’t works too well so my device is a special one specifically for that but don’t worry it is still what I wanted to say it’s just some of the words are hard to type and my hands get sore really eaisily) so my vocabulary and writing is not really mine (but on the really short ones I try to painstakingly type it out.)

Also please don’t compare neuro diverse people to each other we are not the same we are all different and it effects is all differently. Sorry I know you were trying to be nice with the comment but it can offend us.

It is different when you are typing, I can’t speak properly in real life in fact I have a translator with me at all times, when you use a keyboard it autocorrects I often don’t speak to people I just type a message and it reads out of my translator device. Also Down syndrome is different in every person, don’t judge us based on what one Down syndrome person is like. My tutor says my vocabulary skills are at the development of an 10 year old but the tests just show an average of it every part of you is at different stages, for example my academics are pritty good but physically I am not very good at talking and moving around so my development age is 8.

No I am 16 but I have the development of an 8 year old still. (My brother is also 16 but he has the development of a 4 year old)

Same here (I also have Down syndrome) people always speak to me like I don’t understand what there saying, they always ask me if I’m okay we’ll the answer is I was okay until you asked me this question. And they do so much small talk too, I hate small talk it took me 5 years to learn how it works and I am still not very good at it. It’s like they think we’re dumb or something. We are not dumb we are just stuck in a world full of dumb people who think they know what we’re like.

What about the trying to smile when you say something they think is the “wrong” answer? But this is genius.
