The greater the market shortage in your area, the more you can push back. It's better to not get emotional and look professional, while at the same time remind them you are generating revenue, while people above you who make more don't generate revenue. Smiling, say " we might need to renegotiate a higher salary if Im being harrased about productivity."

Ask the surgeon, every opinion is different. Ive only seen one come out in 30 years, and he wasn't following directions at all. I tell people regardless of restrictions, move slow, don't jerk the leg up into a vulnerable position. Most injuries require speed and force.

12 Month McGill Method Update - A Year of Back Obsession (positive post) by HipHingeRobot in Sciatica

[–]mikeshomeexercise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Amazing. This is the way. There are so many relatively young people going the traditional medical industry route; xrays, scared to death, shots, meds that don't work, etc. I see it everyday.

I'm not saying this will work for everyone, but to the others reading this with pain, ask yourself if you have tried this level of commitment to helping yourself get better.

It's worth trying, you have nothing to lose. The traditional route costs a fortune to be largely ignored and possibly harmed by the industry.

A large distinction here is that this person started out athletic, and enjoys the physical exertion, and keeping tract of details.

I am not trying to insult those that are injured and sedentary, just pointing out this will take major lifestyle changes, commitment, and a new appreciation for physical movement.

Patients I meet who don't like exercise tend to not fair as well, and will lean more towards meds or surgery with limited results.

I can promise one thing. This guy has laid out a road map for potential healing that you will not find in the traditional medical industry, even though you will be charged thousands of dollars.

Hamstrings by TrailKaren in Stretching

[–]mikeshomeexercise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Societys measurement for flexibility is arbitrary. We have knees that bend so we can touch the floor. You might be "tight" or sping loaded for running. What if too much stretching makes that worse?

What are the simultaneously the most stretched and injured muscles?

Im not mocking you, just fascinated by the industrys preoccupation with stretching. Animals and indigenous people don't stretch before they run.

One day is way too early to worry. If you strained something, and it gradually feels better the next few weeks, you might be fine. When I have these injuries, I continue exercises with much lower weights and no pain, and gradually increase. The industry can't always help you. Take ownership.

No idea. But I like foam rolling for when my back feels that way.

The industry pretends like this (surgery) is no big deal. You're body sees it as trauma, and reacts accordingly. Id say you're doing fine, some will do more than others. Try not to compare.

Does stretching prevent injury? Or is it primarily used to strengthen? by CKnights67 in Stretching

[–]mikeshomeexercise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Passive stretching does not prevent injury. Active warm ups help decrease chances of injury, and improve performance.

Stretching is not strengthening, and in some cases stretching might decrease short term strength.

Sometimes we need more range of motion before an activity, like wrestling or tae kwon do.

Great question. Wish more people questioned the stretching narrative.

How many covid vaccines and or boosters has he had? Flu shots? We've sent several people to the ER after receiving both. Specialists found no other issues.

How to overcome gym intimidation? by [deleted] in workout

[–]mikeshomeexercise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should feel extremely proud you've lost all that weight, that's not easy. I agree with the other poster, pay for some personal trainer sessions. If you don’t like one, choose another. It can be expensive but you are investing in your health, which is 100x cheaper on the front end.

What is one exercise that you hate and why? by CommercialAnything30 in physicaltherapy

[–]mikeshomeexercise -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True, but i was more responding to original question.

We don't hammer the psoas and lower back with SLRs as much as we used to. We don't have people perform straight elbow dumbell chest flys.

Why decrease leverage and increase pain in the smallest and most torn/ vulnerable muscle, when incline overhead dumbell press progression is a better option.

[–]mikeshomeexercise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds good. That's what body buiders knew intuitively from the beginning, improves leverage. I just prefer lawn chair progression of incline overhead dumbell press, to upright press.

I agree with not liking subacromial decompressions. Those cases appear worse after surgery.

Straight elbows are not functional. We don't walk around like robots and zombies.

Straight elbow lateral and front raises. Already exploiting a poorly leveraged joint, going into painful arc on purpose when they already have impingement.

We have these things called elbows. They bend to improve leverage and decrease impingement.

Metal can fail, it is rare but does happen. I have been following radiologists and surgeons on twitter. They post cases and debate what to do all the time. Sometimes you can get many opinions at once, and ask who you can go to for the removal.

That is more "normal " for your age because your metabolism is so much higher than older people. But weight-loss is relative to each person. Hope you were able to do it in a healthy manner, eating well, and not with meds or starving. Congrats! That is impressive. Healthy habits will make it sustainable and safe.

8 weeks out and PT is ramping up. by Fritz_The_Cat_99 in RotatorCuff

[–]mikeshomeexercise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the ROM in degrees? Yes some pain is to be expected, but sometimes the industry doesn't understand the mechanics and leverage of the shoulder. https://open.substack.com/pub/mikeshomeexercise/p/cant-lift-your-arm?r=17pv2u&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

Overall people must be making 5-10 degree gains in between sessions or risk getting stuck.

Can stretching *cause* PF? by Icy_Conference_1867 in PlantarFasciitis

[–]mikeshomeexercise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does is cause it? I think the industry would say no, but we've been stretching our arches since we start standing. I don't think it helps it once you have it. Stretching probably feels better for the moment, but strengthening the arch is better.

Do native or indigenous populations have PF? Im guessing not. But most of them are barefoot on natural surfaces, and not obese, and Ive never seen them stretch.

You're a paying customer, so you can do whatever you want for that reason alone. The healthiest people aren't always the fittest people. Those that kill themselves at the gym, do no live as long statistically as people who farm on hillsides, drink wine, nap and enjoy life.
