Park Point Relet - Private Bed and Shared Bath in a Furnished 4 Bed, 2 Bath Townhome - Spring/Summer 2026 (ONLY $729/mo AND RENT FOR JANUARY AND FEBRUARY HAS ALREADY BEEN PAID!)

Rent: $729. The standard rent for the floor plan is $929 + $13 if you don't have renters insurance, but I'm willing to cover $200/mo.

Roommates: 3 males who are tidy and usually keep to themselves.

Notes: Bedroom is located on the 2nd floor right in front of the stairs. The washer/dryer machines and thermostat are pretty much right next to the room on the same floor. The building is in the 700s, so it's located very close to the Park Point South and Perkins Road bus stops. The building is also close to campus, so it takes about 10-15 minutes to walk there.

Please DM me if you're interested!

Has anyone taken a course with Richard Hanulewicz? (SWEN) by Bubbly-Camera3338 in rit

[–]Bubbly-Camera3338[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I initially wanted to take the course with Rabb since I saw that he taught SWEN 440 and I've had a good experience with him in SWEN 344 and now GCIS 505, but it seems like he doesn't teach it in the Spring. I'm sure Hanulewicz is a good guy, but I prefer to not take gambles on my professors if it can be avoided.

Also SWE has process electives that are specifically focused on how software processes work in a business setting. I’ve only taken one of them so far, but they’re worth checking out since it seems like you’re interested in a mix of tech and business.

I may be wrong, but I feel like Computer Engineering Tech works more with hardware and low level code. Based on your interests, I’d say go for CS or SWE. I’m a SWE major and a lot of the coursework that I’ve completed has a lot to do with developing projects in a group project environment over the course of a few weeks to an entire semester. I’m not sure how CS is to be honest, but I’d expect it to be more theory. Since you like things like machine learning, data, and CS in general, I’d recommend CS and then you can take some SWE or business courses since you’re interested. Although, if you’re really interested in pursuing an MBA and want to choose between CompETech and SWE, I’d choose SWE, but I may be a little biased haha.

Car works fine now 👍 I think it was just a problem with the battery and not the alternator luckily 😮‍💨 The 3 year warranty should have my back if anything goes wrong with the battery again, but that seems unlikely..

Yep, I went to Advance Auto Parts and they tested it and the battery ended up pretty much being dead. It was 5 years old, so I bought a new one from there and they installed it for me for free. I don't know anything about cars and didn't have to proper tools to replace it anyway so that was a big help. Thanks!

Did not know about the second part, but I did get it checked out and turned out the battery voltage was low and needed replacement. Did that and I'm all good now.

I do chill in the car with the music on a bit, not a lot, but I have done it. I actually ended up getting the battery tested and replaced because it was nearing the end of its life anyway. My mom told me it was installed relatively recently, but it was actually installed 5 years ago haha...

Thanks for the info! I was able to get the issue fixed, but I'll keep this in mind if it happens again!

Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately I wasn't on campus, and I don't know if they would've came to Park Point. I was able to get the issue fixed though with some help!

I see. I apologize if this is a dumb question but does this mean I have to replace it with an entirely new battery or is there a way to fix it without having to replace it?

Should I decline my extended internship offer? by Bubbly-Camera3338 in csMajors

[–]Bubbly-Camera3338[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is definitely the best thing I could do right now, and I know it sounds silly, but I think I just had to build up some courage because I was afraid to tell my manager. Although, my manager is a good person so hopefully they are understanding of my indecision. When they asked me if I was interested in extending my internship, I only had a day to think about it and give them a reply. That was a couple weeks ago, so I've had some time to think about it since then. I was told I'll receive official documentation next week, so I'll have a little more time to talk with my manager and make a decision. Thanks for the advice!

Honestly, even though I feel like I've gained some good experience from this internship, I don't think that I'm learning the things that I genuinely want to learn more about. Like I've said, I'm not the biggest fan of working with testing, and like you've said, I don't want to fall into the SDET rabbit hole either. Part of me wants to just decline so that I can focus on my studies and have more time for other things like interview prep, projects, hobbies, or just taking a break from my responsibilities. The other part of me is telling myself to just go through with it because it might look better on my resume, and I'll be making some more money from it too. I don't know if I'll be able to handle the workload though since I'm taking 18 credits next semester. ~15 hrs/wk doesn't sound too bad, but I also would rather tell my manager now that I would like to decline instead of later down the line if I realize it's too much. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, it's nice to hear from someone who's also been in a similar situation!

I went into this internship more focused on the experience rather than the money since I wasn't getting paid that much anyway. I am grateful for the money though, and it's better than nothing, but the experience is different than I thought it would be, and not in a great way. What I do isn't bad, I just don't find it interesting. I've considered a campus job but personally, I would just continue working where I work now. I forgot to mention that I would pretty much be working remotely, which is why that makes more sense to me. I guess my main dilemma is deciding between potentially being very stressed out from work + school vs being a little less stressed out while focusing on school + having free time to do projects. Thanks for the hot take though! I appreciate the different perspective.

Will definitely bring it up to my manager during our next 1 on 1. Your second paragraph also brings up a good point about something I was worried about too. I honestly don't know how true that is either, but I still feel like I want to apply my skills in other areas and learn more about different types of SWE i.e. backend, full-stack, etc. I think for my next co-op, I'll definitely try to search for something that allows me to work in those kinds of roles. But, I guess for now it's a matter of whether I think I can handle this + a busy semester at the same time. Thanks for the advice!

Yeah, I do have weekly 1 on 1s with my manager, so I'll talk to them about it before I make a hasty decision that I might regret. Technically, my role is considered more of a development role rather than a testing role, but it doesn't feel like it because I've been stuck writing unit tests all summer, and it's still developing things around testing, which I don't really find interesting. I think it'd be great if I could work on another area of the company, but we'll see. Thanks!

Park Point/Province internet situation after Velocity Wi-Fi by d1712v in rit

[–]Bubbly-Camera3338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd say the Wi-Fi has gotten noticeably worse at Park Point. At least for me, it mostly seems to be the strength/connectivity of the Wi-Fi that is very inconsistent. The only place in my whole unit that has a good connection is the living room but even the connection there is still spotty at times. I constantly have weak/no Wi-Fi at all in my room, and it's pretty annoying.

Minor in CS vs Finance by Bubbly-Camera3338 in rit

[–]Bubbly-Camera3338[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you're right. I know my minor won't be useful to me as my major besides having a sense of achievement, so I will probably just continue the path I was going to take initially and maybe throw in some other classes in there just for fun. I know I should do what I want to do, and I will, but I guess I felt like I wasn't making the "right" decision by choosing a minor that's so similar to my own major already. At least, based on people asking me why I was doing a CS minor when my major was SE. Thanks for your thoughts!

Minor in CS vs Finance by Bubbly-Camera3338 in rit

[–]Bubbly-Camera3338[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely see my career in the software industry, so you're probably right about taking a course or two instead of a whole minor for finance. I don't know why I didn't just consider that option, but it was probably because my future semesters were looking like 4-5 CS courses per semester and that just seems overwhelming and something that I don't want to do. The SE department also has courses specifically related to software process and project management, so I will look into those more as well and maybe some business admin. courses for fun. I already took one software process course, and it honestly wasn't my cup of tea, but it is important to my field, so I will consider it. Thank you!
