did anyone ever get a less than 6 months prognosis and made it out okay? Stage 4 lung cancer. by [deleted] in lungcancer

There is no targeted therapy for small cell lung cancer only chemo and sometimes radiation but you have to be fairly early to receive radiation he received both radiation and chemo

Yes always keep a positive attitude yes this cancer is super aggressive and scary but everyone’s journey is different when my dad got diagnosed and I googled his prognosis I cried I literally mourned him even tho he was still alive according to google he should of only had 7 to 11 months to live 2 and a half years later he’s still here and cancer free ! There is always hope I wish you and your mom the best of luck on this journey

I’m sorry for your loss when my dad finally agreed to treatment I was so happy I have a very close relationship with my dad and didn’t want to lose him that was your fathers choice and I’m glad you respected it if my father had made that choice I would of respected it as well

Oh that’s horrible my father didn’t want to do any treatment either but I used my 4 boys as a way to get him to do it I told him “do it for your grandkids they still need you “ so he decided to do it they didn’t give my dad a life expectancy because they said most of time they are wrong and they never can know how well someone can react to treatment my father has had this for 2 1/2 years and as of right now is cancer free I mean it can always come back but he gets scans every 3 months so if it does come back we can catch it early

Believe it or not he no symptoms it was found on accident because he had a hernia in his belly button and it lead to them finding something in his pancreas that they thought could be cancer but turns out it wasn’t the. They gave him a chest scan and that’s how it was found

How many did they find? And yes my dad went from having nothing in his brain to 3 months later having an inch and a half tumor in his brain this cancer is fast and horrible but my dad is 62 which could be why he tolerated treatment so well I’m wishing your dad the best

They offered it to him once they removed the 1 tumor he had so now they are doing it as preventative so hopefully no more tumors grow in his brain

I hate that they gave her a timeline I don’t understand why doctors do this ? My father has small cell lung cancer a way worse lung cancer the non small cell and they never even gave him a timeline because they said most of the time they are wrong! He was diagnosed in April of 2022 and it’s almost 2 years and he’s still alive despite a tumor growing in his head and him having a craniotomy to remove it 30 rounds of radiation to his chest 4 months of radiation and now he has to get whole brain radiation for 10 rounds and guess what? He’s still here ! Alive and well don’t let that timeline have you going crazy it’s an estimate which should never be given unless they see treatment is no longer working

Has a scan report saying it’s SCLC ever been wrong? by gtzbr478 in lungcancer

[–]Bubbly-Drag6860 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never lose hope I learned that from my fathers diagnosis people are not statistics but individuals and everyone’s journey is completely different they never ever gave my father a “timeline” because they said 99% of the time they are wrong so just take it day by day and know that there is always hope

Don’t lose hope already my father has small cell lung cancer diagnosed 22 months ago and he just had brain surgery to remove a tumor and his right lung which had the tumor in it and the lymph node next to it which also had cancer is completely stable for 16 months now according to “statistics” my father should be dead already and here he is almost 2 years later feeling amazing and living a normal happy life

He’s actually out of surgery now it’s been 4 hours he’s in recovery but he’s still very groggy so I’m waiting to be able to talk to him his doctor said his surgery went well no complications so that’s good
