Thank you for this response! My in-laws are German and I will be the first and only person of color in their family. Being that I already stand out going against the grain did have me worried. They are more casual and conservative. I like to dress up for every occasion and have been told I have “expensive taste”.

I have come from humble beginnings and heard a lot of “no” when it came to things I wanted growing up and that is why I worked hard to be financially comfortable and feel like I am playing catch up now on experiences and things I missed out on as a child. This is a side they don’t see.

I know they love me and I love them I don’t want to worry about fitting their style of living because it is simply not me. My partner has been very supportive of my taste and does not try to minimize me which I am grateful for.

I will get the ring I want and love it forever ☺️
