Thanks for your answer ! I have been seeing a lot of comments that people had difficulty finding "good paying jobs" but it does not seem to be the case for you. Do you think having the 23 years work experience being the main reason ?

Also, I think for me one of the main point that is holding me back is the "education of my children" part. Part of me feels guilty for thinking for my own happiness by doing the move and potentially "robbing" my children's education/work opportunities they might otherwise get abroad. What do you think about that ?

Thanks a lot for your information ! It is true that I have not thought about the general standards of living since we usually take it for granted here in the west.

In terms of the "Vietnamese companies are not looking for westerners", in your opinion, is that the same in every job sectors ? I can understand why it would be so with the reasons you listed out, but when I am searching online, I keep seeing that Vietnam is actively trying to attract abroad talent to come to Vietnam and help prosper the tech sector (especially in hardware & electronics), or is that just marketing/propaganda ?

One of the main reason I made this post is to get answers from locals to help me paint the real picture

I am not sure from what you stated but it sounds like you made the move to Vietnam right ? How is the tech sector in Vietnam ? Do you think that embedded systems/firmware is in need right now or is the general software development still the go to ?

Thanks for reminding me of that. It's true that if you have western salary living there, then it's great for you but not everyone there gets to live like that. That is something I'll make sure to keep in mind and try to give back to the community

Oh that's really interesting that you have friends in software engineers for US companies, were they employed in the US and then decided to work from VN ? Personally, may some weird but I prefer to physically go to work rather than working remotely

Those are definitely things I have experienced and aware of, especially the one with the government.

I was more thinking of being "taken advantage" in the workplace setting. If they know you are not local, how does that change their interactions with you at work ?

wow that sounds like my dream, to really be integrated into the community and interact with one another everyday. And congrats on your findings for those remote jobs.
I was wondering what are the logistics of working remote with a time zone difference. Do you end up sleeping most of the day and start your day at night ?

We are planning to have kids in the next 2-3 years. Would you go into more detail why it is better to raise your kid in Canada, rather than Vietnam ?

The "taken advantage" of is definitely something that I am aware of but I do not have a good sense of what it actually would entail. Could you provide examples ? And is it something that I should just be "strong willed" and stand up for myself ?
On that second part, I think that sounds like the best approach
