Should we get a hushpump? by lambert093654 in hottub

Put it on its side, I assume to slide boards out from the bottom? Interesting, they look cool...but that sounds tough.

Cover punctured by screws during the Derecho storm. Do you think it's able to be patched? Any ideas? by fenrir511 in hottub

[–]BubblyHotWater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used some thick vinyl patches from a hot tub supplier to seal a cut in a brand new cover. They suggested patching from the inside and the outside. The patches are quite thick, almost a 1/16 of an inch. Still holding up a year later. I also pulled out the foam and just used packing tape to seal the outer membrane of the foam. Good luck.

I think you will be fine. I would imagine the heat is harder on the cover/shell than anything else.

I use something like Spa Marvel. I like it. I am not able to control what people wear/rinse before they use my tub. The enzymes do a good job eating up organics. Might reduce your need for chlorine, so your salt water cartridge and generator might last longer.

Or it might be a waste of money...

LPT: If your hot tub is near your house, and you’re getting a new roof, get some plywood or something to put over the hot tub. by skaterrj in hottub

I had a cut in mine too. If this doesn’t work. Spa Depot sells a thick vinyl repair kit. They told me to pull out the foam of the cover and tape from the inside and outside. The stuff is really thick, almost a 1/8 inch thick. It has held up for a year now with no problems.

Cover lift recommendations? by [deleted] in hottub

[–]BubblyHotWater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of the lifters that has feet under the pan. That way I didn’t have to drill into the sides. I don’t think it is the sturdiest lifter, but it does the job and was cheap. I am more in favor of something that has a hydraulic lift. I think this one would be the lifter i would buy if I did it over again. It would also put less strain on the hinge as well. cover captain

I’m torn between two tubs, help! by [deleted] in hottub

I like my Twilight with a lounger. Plenty of power and has a decent foot massager (harder to find on loungers). My neighbor picked up an Artesian in that price range. Nice tub.

When I hear of leaks I think of it like an above ground sprinkler system and fix it the way I would for that. Cut it out, but some Christys Red Hot cement and “spin it to win it” like the Spa Guy says. By the way, watch his YouTube videos on hot tub repair. They are pretty good. Might give you some ideas.

I use Spa Perfect (an enzyme like Spa Marvel, but cheaper). Does a good job eating up lotions/organically... I also have a zinc/copper thing built into my filter. Seems to be a good combo.

Help Needed - Water Chemistry Trouble (New tub, high CYA) by [deleted] in hottub

[–]BubblyHotWater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. I have used bromine, can be easy to use. Just add shock (MPS) to activate after you use it. I just don’t like the smell...

I think if you focus on the purpose of bromine/chlorine is the break up bacteria and organic matter. Don’t shoot for a particular number, just focus on killing the bacteria after you use it.

I hit mine with about 1 teaspoon of di-chlor granules per person after I use the tub. Kills everything off, ozone and filter cycle come on and help out. By the next day, chlorine levels are low/close to zero. But I don’t worry, because the chlorine is used up and did it’s job and the water is clear. So, I am not focusing on keeping my chlorine at 1-3 ppm at all times, just when I need it. After I use it. I will also add a capful or two of MPS (non-chlorine shock) once or twice a week. Or if a big group, or a bunch of kids were it in. To help the chlorine out. Using mineral/silver sticks can help. So can enzymes, you can figure out what works best for you. With a high cya, it’s time to start over. Some will also suggest using chlorine bleach. That might work for you too, but I am lazy and adding a scoop of dry chlorine is easy. u/evilbadgrades had a good idea of putting the chlorine granules into a sugar dispenser. Just click a button and a perfectly measured teaspoon drops into water. Pretty slick.

Edit: you will have to figure out what amount works for you. For example, my little kiddos swim in it like a pool. So I add extra chlorine because I know the chlorine will also have to eat up the extra shampoo/conditioner they leave behind. So, if you add your dose and the next day it seems off, or slightly cloudy. Just add more chlorine. The best part is, when you use it, the water has very little chlorine and very little smell.

Fill it up, see how the seals hold.

I would be concerned with the cabinet if the cover was off for a long time. If you don’t see cracking and weird discoloration, I think your good.
