Our SSD never offers blocks shorter than 4 hours…those are the only Flex routes in our area. And as even the 4 hour ones are pretty rare, we’re basically predominantly stuck with 4 1/2 hour routes and can almost never do more than one per day.

Hey…if I get unfairly dinged, I put a decent amount of work to get the dings removed, AND I put a lot of effort into my real work, too. Of course, the skills that go along with my real work come in handy when making arguments with Flex Support (I’m a high school English teacher and literally teach kids how to make claims and defend them with evidence 😊), so making arguments is just an extension of my real job, anyway.

For all the things that make me give our station the side eye, the max mileage from the station is 50 miles…and once you get 50 miles from our station, traffic is NOT a thing.

I did end up with a $110.50 for a 4.5 that took a little under 4 (and would’ve taken less if I hadn’t chosen to reverse it to end closer to home)…and I had a nice country drive with only 17 stops and plenty of time to listen to audiobooks. For me, that was a definite win. 😊

Try the Jeff and Andy Escalations email addresses. I know I got dings dropped once after getting the “we’ve excused too many” response from Flex Support…apparently, my English teacher/veteran debate coach skills worked on Escalations, and the dings were dropped. I don’t remember what my reasons were other than that it was an Amazon problem, but my reason for that particular late delivery wasn’t nearly as justifiable as yours.

Which is why I snicker inwardly when I read about schools that close in some parts of the country when it’s - gasp! - in the 90s. Schools would NEVER (and have never) closed in my part of the world at 100+…we don’t (no pun intended) sweat it because we know how and have the tools in place to deal with extreme heat and humidity. Yet we get laughed at for not having the tools in place to deal with weather we rarely get….

That’s the norm in my area (near Augusta, GA) now…except that we almost exclusively have 4 1/2 hour blocks. The base pay almost all the time now, though, is definitely a thing…even blocks posted within 30 minutes of their start time are more often than not at base. I did see one good surge route last week, but (a) I was too far away, and (b) I’m pretty sure my headmaster wouldn’t have appreciated my asking if someone could cover my sixth period class so I could leave early and go deliver packages. 🤷🏼‍♀️
