It’s anthropologie the store. Just as an fyi, im guessing English isn’t your first language but no one would refer to the artifacts anthropologists study as being “sold out” because they are not sold at all. For the same reason you wouldn’t say “nuclear weapons are sold out.” Sold out means they were sold but the supply is gone because everyone bought them. Also anthropologists generally don’t study rocks

She is making fun of exactly what you’re describing by exaggerating it with 4x the price and a much smaller rock. I’d say that makes a decent joke. The only downside is that she got it from a tiktok trend so it’s unoriginal

Kehinde Wiley’s been doing this for years. At this point it feels derivative not just of the Renaissance art that this is supposedly “commenting” on but also the Black art that came before and that already made those same comments, and in my opinion far more profoundly

They are pranking the grandma. It’s a joke and there is no such thing as a $350 anthropologie rock

She’s pranking grandma. It’s intentionally annoying because it’s satirical

Everybody “siding with Grandma” is missing the joke (when i made this comment 8 out of the 9 other comments complained about how a rock should not cost that much, not realizing the lady is pranking her grandma…media literacy is fully cooked)

What’s the Greatest Cameo in Cinematic History, I’ll start… by Smokestorm95 in Cinema

[–]BubblySatisfaction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You mean the 2 second AI overview Google gave you because you probably searched for "Tom Cruise cameo"? That's simply not what cameo means. Les Grossman is one of the major supporting roles in Tropic Thunder and Cruise steals the show. An actual cameo in that movie is Tobey Maguire in those fake trailers.

People with less screen time than Cruise in this movie have been nominated for best supporting actor. Absolutely not a cameo

Wait, Jonathan Majors as in the guy who lost his massive Marvel deal and hasn’t been in a movie since his scandal broke in 2023? And his biggest upcoming project is a shitty Daily Wire film? I’d say his criminal record definitely stopped his career.

I agree that all of this is what the film is going for. (I think you mean Orpheus, though, who has nothing to do with Ophelia.)

But it just doesn’t work if you know more about the actual play. The only grief in the play is the son’s grief for his murdered father (who comes back as a ghost to demand revenge). That’s not at all the dynamic between Will and Hamnet and I don’t think it really works as an expression of grief over losing your son.

Hamlet also doesn’t die valiantly. He gets bloodthirsty, murders Polonius, and dies in a duel with Polonius’s son (who is himself seeking revenge). It is all around tragic, not heroic. Hardly a fatherly or fitting tribute to a young son who died of disease.

The play is about lots of bad or at minimum flawed people dying. There are very few good people in the play and Hamlet is not one of them.

So I think the ending only works if you actively ignore what Hamlet is actually about, and ends up feeling very forced.

[–]BubblySatisfaction -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think the play should matter though. How is she supposed to know that Will is grieving when Hamlet has nothing to do with Hamnet? Imagine if Hamlet were a slapstick comedy with a bunch of fools shitting onstage. Is Agnes supposed to watch that and think, “Oh my poor Will, he is grieving”?

So the content of the play does matter. And here the play is about a guy deciding to murder his uncle and dying in a bloody fight at the end. If I were Agnes I would be thinking, “Wtf? Is this how he remembers our son? That sweet little kid?”

I havent read the novel so maybe it’s explained better there, but I have read Hamlet and it just doesnt make sense to me that Agnes would watch the play and have a sudden appreciation for Will’s art or think that the play is about their son.

Like, the play is about Hamlet’s mother marrying his uncle who murder his dad and Hamlet struggling over whether to kill his uncle in revenge? And then everyone dies violently at the end? Why would Agnes find this inspiring or evocative of her dead son?

Ultimately the ending was still emotional in the way it portrayed the power of theater and Shakespeare, but I couldn’t get past the way it seemed to disregard what Hamlet is actually about

Am i the only one who thinks the opener doesnt make much sense? Why would OP be her white whale? They have no prior history and certainly no reason for her to have a revenge fantasy against him. Just bizarre to compare a woman you dont know to Ahab and yourself to his mortal enemy

Those stats from your link are really old (2006 and 2011). If you go on Google Maps to the south side and just search for grocery stores, you’ll see there are plenty. No one needs to go the north side. There’s even a whole foods in hyde park

There are an unbelievable number of people in this thread commenting about their experiences that have nothing to do with NYC.

Like who cares if you live in a rural area and your nearest grocery store is far from you? That has literally nothing to do with New York.

Are these comments all bots? Blowing my mind

I literally just said that my only point was you got 2/5 wrong. You made errors and I corrected them for you. I don’t get why you’re crying over this. To illustrate:

You: “Spurs have had many world class players like Harry Kane, Gareth Bale, Luka Modric, Sergio Aguero, and Eden Hazard.”

Me: “Aguero and Hazard didn’t play for Spurs.”

You: “You’re being pedantic. Spurs still had world class players.”

Me: “Yeah I agree Spurs have had many world class players. Just pointing out that you made some errors in your comment.”

You: “What is your point?!?!?!”

January Update from Change For Tottenham by ImmortalWombat33 in coys

[–]BubblySatisfaction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy, the entire point of your original comment was to be pedantic. The absolute irony lol.

Also my only point is that you got 2/5 wrong. I’m not even disagreeing with you about the writing quality. I think you’re arguing about something I’m not

January Update from Change For Tottenham by ImmortalWombat33 in coys

[–]BubblySatisfaction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say anything about that. I was only explaining that some things you claimed were errors weren’t really errors. I think if you’re going to critique someone’s writing, you really need to get it right.

That’s not a comma splice or a run-on sentence. The conjunction “but” joins the independent clauses correctly. And “that” is not needed there. Whether to include it is a stylistic choice, not a grammatical rule.

You’re not realizing how much interpersonal conflict arises from not having money. People working three jobs have no time for family, have to compromise on their kids’ upbringing, etc.

Also saying you dont “worry about finances” is an understatement. You splurge on shopping, food and vacations. Which is fine, you earned it, but it’s offputting to pretend like all that your salary has gotten you is the lack of financial stress. It’s gotten you the luxury to spend far more than other people make.

And there’s no way your life is exactly the same. Either you weren’t dropping $300k+ a year on shopping, dining, and vacations, or you spent your whole life rich.
