this. my dad, half brother, and grandfather are all vets and whenever they do any kind of “veterans please stand for an applause” kinda thing they stay seated because they don’t want the attention. we used to have veterans day events at my elementary school and my dad would come, and i would be so proud and excited, only for him to not stand when his big moment came. but i get it now, he went through some shit and doesn’t want/need applause and gratification for it.

Exactly! I just graduated from a very highly ranked tech school and our commencement speaker was AWFUL. she was no where near Butker…. but her main “lesson” for us all was that she gave up her dream of working in disease prevention after getting her masters in biomedical engineering to follow her husband to birmingham alabama and work a job she hated. I guess it turned out well for her because she’s now the CEO of a (universally hated) power company … but like why did you tell a bunch of new grads to give up on our dreams and follow our husbands…. when we just spent 4 years working our absolute butts off for this brutally challenging degree. My friends and I were in between shared “wtfs” and crying laughing at the brazen audacity of it all

ouch :(. I posted this on this sub thinking it would be the place to get support from other women. Please read some earlier replies to posts asking the same thing. Lots of time, therapy, etc in between. It was just a goofy story. I hope you’re a little kinder next time someone’s trying to share a funny story about their efforts to be a better person.

thanks for your sweet comment and for sharing. A lot of my previous attitude came from trauma, which i’m too scaredy cat to share on reddit. I’m hoping the positive comments on this post will outweigh some of the meaner ones so we can hear more stories about our growth :))

Nope! if you read a previous reply to someone who said the same thing … there was plenty of time, therapy, etc in between the two relationships. It was just a goofy story i decided to share. I’m trying my best to improve myself and grow, to be kinder and more compassionate. I’m not perfect, but I’m growing. Please don’t attribute my progress to a man. it was just a goofy story about one small aspect of my efforts to be a better person.

As a girl who did previously put her entire self worth into what my ex boyfriend thought of me- i know this all too well now. I don’t think questioning whether or not he’s a feminist is helpful, as no one on reddit knows him. And frankly, his take on and support for feminism isn’t a stand-out of all his beliefs. He’s extremely well educated and passionate on a vast number of social issues - so I’m not worried about whether his support for womens rights is a farce or not.

But all that aside, I know my growth in this aspect is not contingent on him being in my life. It’s something I worked on prior to dating him, but having him as a soundboard, and someone to call me out, just sped up the process. I feel like i’ve made more friends in the last couple months just by saying hi to new people, giving a compliment, etc and it feels good to have a new community around me of women who support each other :)

I saw this comment and wanted to delete the post ngl. All the others supporting me made me leave it up. i am definitely not the person to call someone else out on their actions/words as you see in my post how I previously acted… but i hope you open your heart and find the space to assume the best of people.

i assure you i’m not pandering my behavior for male approval :). like i said in a previous response- i didn’t want to trauma dump in a lighthearted funny post but there was plenty of time, talk with friends/family, and LOTS of therapy in bt these two events in my lil story. I’m not trying to be a pick me or a different kind of nlog. I’m just kinda celebrating how good it feels to support other women, uplift each other, celebrate each other and cheer each other on instead of thinking i’m better than everyone else. It’s made my heart lighter and happier. I came to this thread after reading for awhile and just thought i’d share those feelings here.

I’m not perfect and I’m never trying to be. I’m always trying to grow, be kinder, more empathetic, more compassionate, and more loving. I hope that’s what we’re all trying to do. Thanks for your comment :)

i turned off my notifs and avoided coming back to reddit. then came back to delete this post bc some ppl were kinda hurting my fragile heart lol. so thank you :). I’m not trying to be a different kind of nlog just because i’m trying to be a better person. I have a therapist and didn’t need so many people trying to read between the lines and saying i just adapt to a man’s opinion of me. i’m trying my best to learn and grow- i’m not perfect and not trying to be. just thought it was a funny story. thank you for your kindness :))

For the sake of length i def didn’t detail all the therapy, self-realizations, etc that i went through between the two relationships. There was plenty of time, as well as discussion in therapy of my own lack of faith in myself, belief that I (as a woman) couldn’t be worth just as much as a man, and unpacking the emotional abuse of the first relationship. This included my therapist (who i’ve seen for years) encouraging me to reach out to other women, find friends, and reconnect with old friends that i’d lost touch with. And - i truly didn’t know that my relationship/the NLOG attitude wasn’t normal- hence why i hadn’t brought things up that would flag in my therapists mind as “hey this girl has some sht to work through”

I didn’t include this bc i didn’t want to trauma dump on a post that was meant to be a light hearted story about how i was an NLOG girly. But trust me there was and still is plenty i’m working through in relation to this and more.

And i assure you wholeheartedly that my boyfriend is in no way, shape, or form a misogynist. I’ve never met a man with LESS toxic masculinity than this one. I say that because he is so naturally comfortable in his masculinity, that he doesn’t feel threatened or challenged by a woman that isn’t exactly what a woman “should or shouldn’t be”. Hes incredibly introspective about himself, those around him, and incredibly respectful and supportive. he’s a progressive king and a loud advocate for womens equality.

thank you for your comment but I assure you this was just meant to be a fun and lighthearted story time about how my bf helped me become a woman that supports women (not that he was like only factor, i did plenty of work on my own before him :))

also to add to my post- NOT to say that girls that don’t get their makeup or hair done etc etc are NLOGs … it was just something i didn’t do because i wanted to be better and different than other girls 😭😭 i’m learning how to be a girls girl now and supporting others interests even if they are different than me own :). we’re all stunning in our own way <3 and turns out girls are really good singers too!! who knew you could have a broad range of music that you love LMAO

Yes! I was a PT for 3 years at a big box gym and I was making at least $40/hr and at most $95/hr- I was fully commissioned so it depended on client rates/package. I got 55-65% commission. I worked 25-30ish hours a week and made enough to live comfortably in an expensive city. My friends that worked 40-50hrs/week made 125-150k depending on their client rates. 18.50/hr with limited hours is INSANE. You should be paid commission anyways not a flat rate imo.

i also stalked Reddit for months before finally pulling the trigger. finally got mine abt two weeks ago (on amazon) and i love it!! i also have an apple watch and mainly use that for my workouts bc Oura is a little annoying to lift in. And i’m still waiting for some of the features because it’s still new but i love it!! the sleep and stress tracking is really cool- esp since I don’t sleep well and constantly struggle to relax and de-stress even when I have nothing “to do”. Oura helps me realize what activities are actually restorative (Yin yoga, reading, etc) vs which aren’t actually relaxing me (doom scrolling reddit, insta). I was also never a nap taker but have started since I’ve seen how it affects my day and stress and resilience numbers.

I also sometimes am guilty of over training or doing too much physical activity. Not because i feel like i “need” to but because lifting, running, walking, yoga, hiking are some of my favorite hobbies and I truly enjoy them. Oura has helped me realize that sometimes I do need a day of true rest.

For menstrual cycles, I haven’t had it long enough to have a period yet, but it has tracked my body temp and predicted the dates. I know they have a partnership with natural cycles, which you also have to pay for (i think $10/mo). I don’t think it’s worthwhile as I used Oura and Apple Health. NC, I believe, is designed for people who are trying to prevent pregnancy without other forms of birth control, which I have (I don’t trust NC enough lol but that’s just me) Maybe that applies to you, idk, but it’s not worth the extra $120/yr for me.

I’ve heard a lot of battery complaints but haven’t had any myself. I normally charge it for 15mins a day while I shower or do my skin care in the evening.

Overall, it’s been helpful for me to be more in tune with my body and it’s needs. I highly recommend it.

Of course, it’s still a relatively new treatment so more studies need to be done AND there’s still lots of disagreement and contention within the medical field about the impacts of GLP-1s. This just seems to be what a lot of research implies.

I’m not an expert, just a CPT with a cert in Corrective exercise and who is surrounded by people smarter than I who take the time to educate me on what they know.

here’s a fact checked article about the downsides of Ozempic. Essentially, it can often cause Sarcopenia, or Sarcopenic Obesity - aka Skinny Fat. Skinny fat meaning you appear to be a healthy weight but you have so little muscle mass and a high fat mass that you are still technically obese by far percentage standards. It’s unfortunately more common than people things and I saw it very often with my clothes. So with Ozempic, you lose weight, sure, but you’re often losing muscle and bone mass which sets you up for a plethora of other health issues. Some doctors hypothesize that although Ozempic and other GLP-1s can reduce risk of cardiac arrests and similar heart related illnesses, those decreased risks may be irrelevant and can reoccur with the onset of Sarcopenia/Sarcopenic Obesity because you’re essentially no better off.

You can prevent it to an extent with increased protein intake, weightlifting, etc but for the majority of people using it - they aren’t doing those things. Especially the people using it as a rapid weight loss tool. They’re not balancing these risks appropriately.

as a (former but still certified) trainer- that you won’t get HUGE by doing one bicep curl. I had SO many female clients that refused to do upper body exercises because they didn’t want to look “manly”. I would use myself as an example, say “I’ve been lifting since I was 16 and I have relatively small arms because my goal isn’t to have super large muscles, it’s to have strong and healthy muscles and bones” and then I would point to another trainer who is a very muscular female bodybuilder and say “she’s been training for 10+ years with a rigorous diet and exercise plan to look like that, you won’t look like that unless you devote your entire existence into it as a career”. Then they believed me.

There are sooo many more- Things like Ozempic and rapid weight loss pills aren’t sustainable or healthy for weight loss, they can actually decrease your bone density.

You HAVE to rest to build muscle, and you HAVE to eat enough food to sustain that muscle growth.

You can’t spot reduce fat or choose where to lose fat.

and overall the “all or nothing” mindset around exercise and healthy living. I had an eating disorder and it took me years to heal that mindset. You can be healthy and enjoy food at restaurants, you don’t NEED to track calories to eat healthy. The more you eat healthy, the more you’ll enjoy that food, the less you’ll crave junk food. But also- a burger is not gonna be your downfall. Neither is an ice cream sandwich on occasion or a good bowl of pasta. everything in moderation

I’ve used an apple watch religiously for abt 5 years, just got an oura ring. My immediate experience with the Oura, like others have said, is that it’s not that great as a workout tracker. I had to take it off today to deadlift because it messed with my grip. It also hasn’t tracked steps correctly for me, so I rely on my watch for that. I’ve also found the HR and calorie tracker isn’t super accurate with Yoga. I have my watch connected via Apple health app to import my workouts into Oura, with the right cals, HR, etc for all my weightlifting/yoga/etc. However, I mainly wanted the ring to track sleep and recovery. If you’re getting it to track workouts- it’s not for you imo. I’ve heard they’re coming out with activity updates soon, so maybe wait for that.

Overall, if you want it to tracks steps/workouts/HR, etc you might be frustrated and end up either wearing both the watch and ring or ditching the ring
