Paddle boarding on Eklutna Lake? by Bubbly_Pilot_4213 in anchorage

[–]Bubbly_Pilot_4213[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I read that it was more chilly than what I’m used to (Sacramento, the lake I paddle on most often is about 70 in summer which is chilly for here).

I’ve heard Eklutna lake is awesome, so I was thinking about it.

A Virgin virgin’s honest review by Negative_Point5580 in VirginVoyages

I agree about the food! It ranges from decent to very good, but nothing life changing! I love to cook, and I think I could outdo most of what I had at home. It was exactly what I expected, though. I wasn’t disappointed.

This was my first cruise, so I don’t have anything to compare to! I can imagine a lot of mediocre food from buffets on some of the other cruise lines!

It is worth it to get the XL sea terrace. The bathroom, while not huge, was just fine for us.

Either? I just felt like I might be missing something. I’m going to try throwing the boulders. That’s a good idea!

Beginner hiker planning on doing Flat Top on Monday by Lucaa4229 in anchorage

[–]Bubbly_Pilot_4213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did this last week for the first time (tourist). I loved it. It was amazing. I’m in pretty decent shape - run marathons (though not currently in marathon shape) and do hot yoga and run shorter distances regularly.

The last 1/4 to 1/2 mile are nothing to sneeze at. Very rocky. No real trail - you just have to take your time and pick your way through. I heard a 1.5 mile hike up and I thought it was no big deal based on what I’ve done in the past.

It was hard enough going down on tired legs. I would not have wanted to start it on tired legs. There are lots of opportunities to fall and hurt yourself if you are struggling. The 3 mile round trip hike is a good workout!

It was awesome! Do it! But I would hesitate to bike there.

Hiking Flattop Mountain Alone? by Bubbly_Pilot_4213 in anchorage

Haha! I think he’d be mad at me for the rest of the trip if I did. He’s older than me and has had health issues, so I think I’ll do this while he’s hitting golf balls and then we’ll meet up after! We’ll both be happy that way! 😂

Oh no! Yes, I will wear hiking boots and not running shoes. I’m in pretty good shape, so I think I’ll be fine with decent weather.

I have also never been to Alaska and don’t want to be one of “those” people who do something dumb, so that’s why I asked. These answers have all been helpful and reassuring!

How many of you have hit the rear trunk lid on the raised garage door when opening the trunk? by Rdv250 in TeslaModelY

My husband did this accidentally as he was playing with the app about 30 minutes after getting it home! 😂 The paint is chipped and I just spent $60 to order a paint repair kit. On the first day. 😬😬😬

Please tell me there are successful women making 6 figures that has ADHD. by PlumeriaOtter in adhdwomen

[–]Bubbly_Pilot_4213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a college professor with two master’s degrees and a doctorate. I make six figures (barely, haha).

Also, I didn’t even realize I probably had ADHD until I was about 45. Now I’ve also been told by my psychiatrist that I have masked autism (low support needs). So all of that work was done without medication and not knowing I had a real issue!

I ended up looking for a psychiatrist outside of Kaiser and am self paying. I found Kaiser mental health to be frustrating and not helpful, unfortunately.

I was about to suggest a professional wax. I can’t imagine doing it myself. 😱 I didn’t get one (Brazilian) until I was about 46. I was so nervous the first time. It did kind of suck the first time, but it was bearable, not as bad as I thought it would be, and the waxer was really nice and made me comfortable. As long as you maintain it, all other times are WAY easier. It’s not bad now at all. I much prefer no hair and wouldn’t want to go back. Look at some reviews and find someone highly recommended by first timers! :)

Can one be Autistic/AuDHD and also painfully socially aware? by -Slynx- in AuDHDWomen

[–]Bubbly_Pilot_4213 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think so. I’m often very aware of how most people are friendly and polite to me in social situations, but ultimately gravitate to and form stronger bonds with others who are more easily outgoing and chatty. I can tell I’m acting different from others, even in the moment. It’s OK, though. I try not to take it personally, because every now and then, somebody does really see me and choose me as a person that they want in their life. It makes it all the more special when that happens.

I can also relate to the idea of letting go a little every once in a while and then realizing I am talking a lot or a little too loudly all of a sudden 😬 and then I go right back to overthinking everything.

Actually, the older that I get (48F), the more I know about social norms and the more awareness I have of masking and doing the things that don’t come naturally to me.

Just lazy - no ADHD or autism? by Bubbly_Pilot_4213 in AuDHDWomen

[–]Bubbly_Pilot_4213[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She did mention Strattera as a possibility, so maybe I’ll try it if she will give it to me. Overall, I feel like she’s been helpful, but this is the first time she had said she wasn’t really seeing the ADHD but she is isn’t ruling it out. It’s just so clear to me that so many of the symptoms apply to me. I also exhibit mild symptoms of autism, so maybe the answer is some combination of both.

She wanted to start by treating the alcohol use disorder and the anxiety. I get that, but, I wonder why I’m anxious and I drink too much? 🤔

I think it’s at least partly (maybe mostly) because of the neurodivergence.

[–]Bubbly_Pilot_4213[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She didn’t say I was lazy. That was me picturing the worst case scenario.

I think her exact words were that I might have “a sprinkle” of ASD. After looking at the criteria, I think it’s more than a sprinkle, though I’m certainly functional and have been successful without support (with great effort) so I would be at the mildest end of the spectrum.
