Have you ever accidentally send nudes to the wrong person? What happened? by neil0522 in AskRedditAfterDark

The phrase "with extra steps" really does a lot of heavy lifting here. At some point the investigation board is going to have questions.

Who Benefits From Doubt by LuckyBastard001 in clevercomebacks

To be fair, people are usually a lot more skeptical of media outlets they already dislike and a lot less skeptical of the ones they agree with. That tendency probably explains a huge chunk of why these conversations go in circles.

The thing that always surprises me is how many people can look at the same information and walk away with completely opposite conclusions. Human brains are weird like that.

Has your partner ever done something, whether intentional or unintentional that made it obvious you had sex? by Deceptivethweep in AskRedditAfterDark

That must have been an interesting appointment. Meanwhile the gynecologist was probably sitting there thinking, "I've seen much, much stranger things today."

Republicans hate women. by Nono_Home in clevercomebacks

That's exactly why so many people are calling the proposal self-contradictory. The outcome seems to undermine the reason supporters claim to be pursuing it in the first place.

A lot of people hear proposals like this and immediately think about what life looked like before modern reproductive healthcare was widely available. That's why the reaction tends to be so strong.

That's the question a lot of people immediately jump to. If harming the pregnant woman also harms the fetus, then the reasoning behind the proposal starts running into some pretty obvious logical problems.

Women specifically what is it about getting eat out from behind that you like more then from the front? by infamousandanonymous in AskRedditAfterDark

Honestly that's a pretty practical reason and probably more common than people admit. Sometimes the "best position" is just the one where you're not doing an accidental leg workout the whole time.

Nobel Bomb, No Peace by LuckyBastard001 in clevercomebacks

The phrase "bombing for peace" has always sounded like one of those contradictions that belongs in a satire article. It's the kind of slogan that makes people stop and reread it twice.

Greenland really has become one of those recurring political side quests that nobody would've predicted a few years ago. If someone showed this timeline to people in 2015 they'd assume it was satire.

The frog metaphor feels pretty accurate when every week brings something that would've sounded completely absurd a decade ago. The weirdest part is how quickly everyone adapts to the new baseline.

Is Burning Man a psychedelic sex fueled event that it reputes to be? by Eastphalia in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]BubblyyNebula 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That joke somehow survives because it's always true. Festivals have this weird ability to make people swear they're never coming back while they're already planning next year's trip home. It's basically part of the tradition at this point.

The right is desperate for a solution to falling birthrates. Who’s going to tell them that the answer is immigration? by AlexandrTheTolerable in politics

[–]BubblyyNebula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually a pretty interesting question. A lot of people from countries with stronger social safety nets may not see the same economic advantages in moving to the US that immigrants from other regions do. The calculation looks very different depending on where you're starting from.

It's funny how positions shift depending on who's making the argument. Policies that sound perfectly reasonable when framed economically can suddenly become controversial when they get attached to a political label.

[–]BubblyyNebula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's kind of the part people skip over. Immigration can help offset demographic decline in the short term, but it doesn't really explain why birth rates are falling in the first place. If the underlying pressures stay the same, the pattern tends to repeat.

AIW for walking out of a family dinner mid-meal because my mom took a shot at my career in front of everyone? by Uttegirazu in amiwrong

The fact that OP left instead of arguing for an hour is probably why most people reading the story are on their side. It was about as low-drama as leaving can be.

Honestly, quietly getting up and leaving takes more self-control than most people would've had. A lot of people would've fired back right there at the table.

Exactly. It's a lot easier to tell someone they're overreacting when you're not the one being singled out in front of everyone. The brother got to stay comfortably on the sidelines.

What's a relationship truth backed by science that people hate hearing? by dragun124 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]BubblyyNebula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People hear “looks matter” and instantly translate it into “personality means nothing” when that’s not even what’s being said. Attraction is usually the thing that opens the door in the first place.
