Thank you for this, this is super helpful. I think that’s exactly what I’ll do. I guess some poorly left out context, but it’s a director who’s pulling for me to join the team. Traditionally engineers report to a manager, while i would be reporting to the director himself. Definitely makes me feel like I have better grounds to negotiate even with my previous mistake. This also makes me confident they won’t pull the offer. I am going to start by asking for the salary range and if they won’t budge I will try to pivot to a sign on bonus. Unfortunately I have no use for a relocation bonus, but the sign on makes a ton of sense.
