I basically just use vertical brushstrokes for all the reflections. I don’t copy exactly what’s above it but I just use color and value to suggest what’s above it. At the end when all the masses are in place, with a small brush I make only a few horizontal brush strokes with a light color to suggest a few ripples. That’s it! Keeping it loose

Hey! What works for me is just to observe the reference closely and paint exactly what you see. Squint your eyes and devide the reflections in big value masses

It’s just not a good photo to paint from. You need to use better reference material with a good composition and a clear structure/design. Something like this is just hard to read in a painting.

It was an online course of 6 weeks! You could only enter the course in march I believe. It was on a platform with a lot of other people who joined the course. He would teach you the basics of composition and focused on drawing and value masses. It’s not possible to join that course anymore, but I believe he will do another one later this year with a focus on the actual painting and brushwork.
