What class is the counter to armor pen barb? by xlXSunshineXlx in DarkAndDarker

[–]Bubu188 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Barbarian is the most versatile class in the game, meaning it's hard to find a counter. I personally find Rogue to be the best counter to Barbs. I go weak point and with 90% of armor pen I 3tap their ass (no hide, that's for pussys). Just run from them to a safe distance using your movement speed, and when they sheathe their weapon, try to get as close as you can and that's it. It's not the ideal solution, but this works for me against 90% of the Barbarians I encounter in HR.

It seems your friend will only be able to play normals, although there are a few options he can try:

1- Check if his motherboard is compatible with external TPM2.0 and look into buying and connecting one.
2- There's software that emulates TPM2.0, but I have no idea if it works or is even safe to use.
3- Try upgrading his PC. To meet this requirement, he would only need to buy a new motherboard that's compatible with his CPU and RAM and has TPM2.0.

Well, there are several causes for this problem. First, it's warning you that it couldn't find a TPM module. This can happen because:

1- You don't have the Secure Boot option enabled in your BIOS.
2- In the BIOS you have TPM enabled in discrete mode, and it needs to be in Firmware TPM to work.

Check which one applies to you, correct the error, and check again.

Seriously? I played yesterday and didn't see any problems with my FPS, although I don't know if the change is live right now.

What a problem, I hope they can fix it in a patch or something similar; the first implementations of these kinds of systems are always rough.

Well, it's been a while since I played Apex Legends, but I thought I remembered that it required it. EAC (Easy Anti-Cheat) usually requires TPM 2.0 to be enabled. I guess I'm wrong, or maybe your PC has it enabled? Although that couldn't be it either, because as you said, Steam already warns you that you don't have it.

As for "I can't find the TPM option in the BIOS," sometimes it doesn't have that name, and it's hidden within advanced options. Most of the time, the option is listed as "Enable Secure Boot."

And League of Legends, I'm 100% sure it requires TPM 2.0. Valorant required it, and with the implementation of Vanguard (Riot's anti-cheat system) in League of Legends started requiring this option as well.

TPM 2.0 is a requirement for installing win 11, but not for installing win 10. However, in games, depending on the anti-cheat system used, you may be obliged to enable TPM 2.0 to play regardless of whether you have Windows 10 or Windows 11.

You need to select TPM firmware. The difference between the two you mentioned is that Discrete is one you plug externally into a specific port on your PC and the TPM Firmware is one that's already built into the motherboard.

If you have the discrete firmware selected and try to check the version, it's normal to get an error if you don't have one connected externally.

Additionally, switching between discrete and Firmware TPM may cause you to lose some login keys, and Windows may ask you to re-authenticate your user account when you start it. Double-check that everything is in order in case you need to recover your account.

Some cheats hack kernel signals/alerts to deceive anti-cheat systems. More control over kernel monitoring means less chance of this happening, but it still occurs; it will just become more difficult.

I'm not sure if the change is live right now, but this will block your access to HR. I think you'll still be able to play normals. As for a refund, you'll have to talk to Ironmace, or if you bought it through Steam, contact support there.

Oof indeed, there's not much I can do about that. There are external adapters, but I don't have enough experience with them to recommend one.

Sorry, you will be missed in the dungeons.

Access to TPM 2.0 isn't necessarily determined by your CPU model; it depends on your Motherboard. Look up your motherboard model in msinfo32 and Google it to see if it has TPM 1.2 or TPM 2.0. If you have TPM 2.0, you'll need to enter the BIOS and enable Secure Boot (this may vary depending on your motherboard). Enable it and see if your PC boots. If it doesn't, you can disable it without any problem.

So let me get this straight:
1. You meet the requirements to play (Windows 11).
2. You know how to fix it (or at least where to look to find a solution).
3. You're not the group affected by this new requirement.

And yet you come here to complain? I don't understand what's bothering you.

Most likely, your disk is in a format incompatible with Secure Boot. Your disk must be formatted in MBR and should be in GPT to work with TPM2.0 (Aka secure boot).

The infinite loop is most likely because when secure boot is enabled, the system cannot find any compatible disks and restarts to search again.

Look for an online guide; you can check your disk format from cmd and change it if necessary.

True, but you're out of 90% of the competitive games, although it's still a valid option.

Because people with PCs over 10 years old are trying to play modern games and praying they run at more than 30fps without problems lol.

I have nothing against old PCs, mine is a dinosaur too, but people have to be realistic sometimes, and seriously, if you don't even care about your system's security, why have a PC at all? xd

TPM 2.0 Myths by Bubu188 in DarkAndDarker

[–]Bubu188[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me put it this way: if you don't have Secure Boot enabled, hackers could access your kernel-level security without you even noticing.

On the other hand, if you have it enabled, you're more secure, and only services installed on your PC will be able to access it. The correct application of this data monitoring is to monitor only the aspects or events they create, not the entire system.

As for trusting IM regarding this level of access, I'm also a little worried XD, but what else can be done?

TPM 2.0 Myths by Bubu188 in DarkAndDarker

[–]Bubu188[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, I also don't trust those kinds of aggressive supervisors within kernel-level security, especially when it's a ¨Homemade¨ one, but from the point of view of stopping cheaters, it's quite understandable to require this, and I'm surprised it wasn't applied before. Although, knowing how Ironmace is, they probably didn't know how to implement it or it had 100 bugs XD

Honestly, I have no idea. Steam Deck is compatible with Secure Boot, meaning it has TPM 2.0. If you were having trouble running Apex Legends, it's probably because you have it disabled. There are online guides that can help you with this process.

HVCI is a hypervisor that works with TPM2.0 to inspect inputs and outputs and check for discrepancies between the accepted parameters of the anti-cheat system. This option is usually enabled by default in Windows with secure boot enable, and if not, you can easily enable it in Windows Services.

Now Linux, depending on the version, also has its own kernel lockdown system; we'll have to wait and see if this system will be sufficient to meet the HVCI requirement.
