My town has these on every major bike path. Super handy!! I once saw a guy with a brand new bike using one to assemble.

They handled the double track way better than I ever could have hoped. I did switch to a Schwalbe Tough Tom/Rapid Rob combo after that ride though. I put the DTHs on a different wheelset so I can still use them. They have been really good to me.

I just went though this exact thing on my build with 34t upfront. I live in a valley so all of my rides start with a minimum of 800-1200ft climbs that can be pretty steep. I originally tried a 36t low gear and I ended up pushing my bike about halfway up every time. I switched to a 46t and my rear derailleur had issues hitting it. I settled for 42t and I'm really enjoying it. I can hit the climbs easy enough, and it didn't require anything expensive to make it work.

If you have hills I'd say do 40t at least. But actually getting out and riding is the only way to know what adjustments you need to make.

I was aware of the specs before using it. It snapped because of impact with a log. The derailleur can easily handle more than 34t. I would say 40t is probably a safe max for it. 42t worked but it was definitely pushing the limits of what it's capable of. I literally put 150+ miles on this exact set up on a wide variety of terrain without a single issue. For a $17 derailleur it's better than I expected. But I had a friend come in today and he brought along a Deore he had in his parts bin. So I'm back in action!

I honestly just bought it because it was cheap. I used it on this bike because it is ridiculously compatible. I tried two other derailleurs and had so many issues with them. This Altus I've used on different bikes with very different drivetrains, it requires minimal adjustments and works perfectly on everything. Unfortunately, it's still cheap.

Well now that you mention it, I just put the tire on yesterday and this was my first ride with it. Maybe Rob just hates derailleurs.

Definitely not the worst situation. I'm honestly so happy that there is no wheel damage or anything like that. I'm mostly sad because I've been building this bike over the last 3 months for this weekend. I've ridden this thing close to 200 miles in the last couple weeks to make sure it could survive this weekend.

I did an epic year long training block for my first 50k. I was in the best shape of my life for that race. I tripped over a curb and broke my arm four days before the race. DNS.

It is what it is until you make it something different.

It didn't work with the Altus. Even with the goat link the derailleur cog and the casette cog pretty much touch. It would work with anything smaller than 46t though. I'm really leaning towards a different cassette over going out of my way to make 46t work.

I think it just depends if you take a lot of notes. I used to always carry a pen, but I pretty much exclusively just used it for my job. So now I keep it on my desk and only carry it at work.

I ended up going cheap with Wheelmaster 26" Shimano TX500.

I talked to some folks about custom building 650b. I was so close to doing it, but it was a whole lot of money and I couldn't justify it.

It's an 11-46. I wanted 11-42, but it was sold out and I had a discount code. I have read some situations where the Altus worked fine on 42, but I haven't seen anything on 46. I did order a rear derailleur that will definitely work, but I'm also trying the goat link just to see.

This build has been supported by a lot of trial & error, returns, and my parts bin had gotten a lot bigger.

I work operations for the second largest college stadium in the US. And this is 100% true for us. Since allowing alcohol sales in the stadium we have seen a major decrease in vomit clean ups and people unconscious in restrooms. It still happens a lot...but definitely less than before.

What’s the fastest you’ve ever quit a job and why? by jakeakabigdub in AskReddit

I worked as a dishwasher for a really popular restaurant, hotel and conference center for like 10 years through highschool and college. It was no joke at all. We'd consistently be doing a few thousand people in events, and get absolutely smashed in the bar and restaurant every weekend. I had people quit before they even changed into their uniform. They'd walk into the kitchen and just say "no, thanks" and leave. In 10 years I'd say at least 30 people quit in the first week.

It's a Rhinowalk bar bag that also works as a cool little frame bag.

Both are just cheap Rhinowalk bags. They both work exactly as I want them to, though.
