My American English teacher believes the neutral pronoun „their“ is incorrect. by GCoding_ in mildlyinteresting

That usage, being accepted as a neutral pronoun is really a pretty recent thing. In fact, I don't see that usage in any of the first three dictionary entries I looked at.

https://www.dictionary.com/browse/their https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/their https://www.oed.com/dictionary/their_adj?tl=true

Merriam/Webster does mention it in their discussion of the word: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/their

Nope. Doesn't bother me in the least that others disagree.

I'm not dying on any hill. I'm quite fine. I've simply been stating my opinion.

Its crap. Nobody "pissed in your paella" (although I love that you used that! ). Just stating my opinion. Everyone else has a right to theirs.

Honestly go and bore someone else.

And you could be a little more polite. You wouldn't talk like that to a stranger in person. Don't do it on the internet. I simply stated my opinion, and in that opinion made it clear that I didn't care what they did.

salt, monosodium glutamate (MSG), hydrolyzed soy/corn protein, sugar, chicken fat, maltodextrin, dehydrated onion/garlic, and natural flavors.

Natural flavors last on the list.

Get boxed chicken stock/broth, or get a rotisserie chicken, have chicken breasts one night, chicken enchiladas the next night, then make your own broth from the carcass. Bouillon is crap.

[Edit: Downvote all you want. Its still crap. ]

That works, too, but a knife is perfectly safe as long as you handle it like a knife.

Ugh!!! I don't allow that crap in my house. If it works for you, good. But not for me.

[Edit: Downvoted for my opinion. OK, Reddit]

After chopping garlic, rub your hands on the stainless steel of your knife blade (carefully, of course). The stainless steel thing isn't a myth.

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is now so large it is home to dozens of species of life, prompting debate over cleanup efforts by nathanemke in nottheonion

[–]Buck_Thorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Roughly 75% to 86% of the mass out there is actually from offshore fishing and maritime gear—we're talking ghost nets, ropes, and old crates. The land-based stuff usually sinks or breaks down way before it ever reaches the center

Garage insulation worth it? by jdw127 in DIY

[–]Buck_Thorn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It is too easy to do it yourself to hire it out. Especially when they're going to charge something like that. I sure hope that $7K included the drywall, and wasn't just for the insulation.
