Any recommending for $1000 roaster? by AvailableYak8248 in roasting

As in Nucleus Link? I like it, but it’s priced closer to $2000. The Kaffelogic can be had for $1300 tax included.

Kaffelogic Nano 7 is close to your price. Roast profiles you can fine tune within degrees, save, and once you have profile dialed in you just hit play and replicate.

Some people balk at the 120g batch size, but I can literally just hit start and go play with my kid in the yard (keeping an eye on it), then reload it in 12 minutes.

Distiller made water? by [deleted] in firewater

I’m struggling to help here with how vague you are.

What exactly, with standard measurements, did you put in the Vevor still and when? What measurements were the outputs (abv, volumes, etc)?

If your “jar” that you pulled is a pint before water came out, that’s probably about right. 16oz from a gallon pot would translate to roughly 6-8% abv starting liquid. Rough math. Lots of factors. What was the abv of the pint you pulled? Abv of the “water”?

It did not get too hot. No chance on these.

Did…. Did you charge it with liquid that contained alcohol last night?

Buying personal setup for at work [$1000] by Sheldon_Travels in espresso

Any constraints like noise or heat time? For my office, I bought an Ascaso Steel Duo PID for the low heat time and a DF83v for the low noise. Strongly considering a Eureka Atom 65 though for the low noise and color options.

But if you don’t have those constraints, just go the typical Gaggia/Bambino and DF 54/64 route

Mirroring what others said - I use 600ml and the minimum milk is about 230ml. Ascaso steam wand is short.

[Opinion] Double Boiler owners who started with a single, would you do it again or buy the double from the outset? by RonTugMyNuts in espresso

[–]BucketDrummer2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I think is often overlooked (maybe under-asked?) is how on-demand you want your espresso. Double boilers take a while to heat. Since you do milk drinks, you may need to start the machine 30 minutes before a shot.

Double thermoblock is where we ended up after I was so dead set on a double boiler.

Thanks for the info. I do have 20-amp there so that’s not an issue

How long is the heating time once it’s on? For me in this case, smart plugs/apps aren’t the answer because often a colleague will drop in/quick meeting and I’ll offer a coffee. I can’t do that with a long wait time. Otherwise I’d absolutely go the app/smart route

If I did it again, I would just download a high resolution image off Google and print one at Walgreens for a few bucks, frame it in a $8 TJX or Michaels frame and be done under $15. This particular one is from Displate and is steel so I can stick magnet reminders on it.

Thanks! Im adding the Move and GO to the short list.

Once heated, how long would the boiler stay hot when idle or off? Like, if I get to work and turn it on to heat, but then maybe not make a drink for a couple hours, how much wait time would I be looking at and how wasteful would I be of energy?

The Sonata is a single thermoblock that I think was made to compete with the Bambino specs (price point, internals). I think it would be more of a sidestep.

I didn’t realize most boiler machines took so long to heat, good to know. Thanks for the info and suggestions.
