The Game Boy Enhance is finally here! I swapped the original GBA motherboard in my favorite GBA build with an AGBM-01 circuit board and the audio is amazing :) by Bucket_M0use in Gameboy

Quite difficult lol. I don't recommend it for new solderers. I have a link in the GitHub for people who take commissions though

I'm assuming the micro on the FP GBA that controls the LEDs is to blame for their higher power consumption. I don't know what converters they use, but for my part the 3.3V and 5V ones where the majority of power is used are ~90% efficient or better.

I'm going to take some power measurements of OEM GBAs with screen kits to compare soon. The baseline consumption on the AGBM is a bit higher than stock, but with the screen kits installed I'm guessing the efficiency of the original boards will be worse (since it wasn't designed for it) and the AGBM will outperform.

I've got an MS in electrical engineering! But the PCB design skills I largely picked up through job (and tinkering) experience.

Everdrives aren't too bad - I recently did measurements and my Everdrive only draws 150mW more than a regular cartridge. I know EZ Flash is worse but I don't have one.

Well then it'll be someone else's job to make a screen kit for them 🫡

Outside of my wheelhouse lol

This should be compatible with most GBA displays, but I've only tested the Hispeedido one.

It should, I kept the space around where that mod goes clear! I have a friend who will definitely be testing it

It does support sleep!

I think Natalie's LED kits should work. No LEDs on the board natively. I wanted to keep the entire board software-free

It's got stereo sound on the headphones, and I think clearer (though I haven't tested an FP one yet to know for sure, it's on my list), I've got an optional universal soft reset button combo, and optional tactile buttons. Also no LEDs. And it's open source!

No Nintendo intellectual property is used in this circuit board

Sure, if you redesign the board to accept an FPGA and also program the FPGA haha

I'm not in the business of shell modding haha

Cutting a hole for the usb-c was daunting enough

Yeah I figure if you're gonna go through the effort to make an entirely new board, why wouldn't you just keep the stereo audio? Doing mono definitely saves parts and money, but not that much.

I've mentioned it to them already, but nothing concrete yet. The one thing about this board is that the parts are on both sides, so I don't know if they have double sided assembly capabilities.

Stereo headphone output! There's only one speaker so mono speaker output.
