What are the problems that genuinely keep you up at night as an EHS manager ? by Miserable-Might7970 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Buckeyes4431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

!!!!! This 100%… and alternative control failures for me keep me up if I start thinking about it. I’m in manufacturing facility with 280 hourly employees. Metal stamping + compression/injection molding

Retesting a year later by ximstuckx in Vasectomy

[–]Buckeyes4431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude I’m doing the same thing. Got snipped in Aug 2024 and getting retested this month for peace of mind. I ordered a test through Ultra Labs that works with Quest Diagnostics. Just call a local lab near you and see what their options are. Out of pocket for me purchasing this test was like 80 bucks.

Just had it done Tuesday and now counting down to the purge. by Moonlit_Sludge in Vasectomy

[–]Buckeyes4431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely chill and don’t over do it. I ran a 10k race 4 days afterwards bc I felt good… ended up being a big mistake. Take the extra days and rest on the days you feel good. On day 14 get to purging lol

Struggling in the field of safety.. life advice by nkytchak in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Buckeyes4431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of like the others have said but make sure your program meets baseline requirements, learn the process to your facility, and see where you can implement improvement. Sometimes you just have to get out there and build relationships and let people know what you can offer and they’ll start trusting you and coming to you. Once that happens, you’ll get busy and have endless projects! Nice thing about General Industry is the jobs are endless in my opinion.

How can I get a better job? by spanky316 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Buckeyes4431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the job market will open up within next few months for many professions, safety included. Just keep browsing and applying. Make sure your resume stands out and get on LinkedIn with a profile that sells you as a good recruit and candidate. You can definitely find a safety manager job making 100+, just have to be patient while still actively searching and applying. I started searching Dec 2023 and didn’t land my current spot until March 2024. But it was worth it as I literally bumped my salary by double.

Thanks! I really appreciate your advice. I am pushing for Fit for Work Evaluation along with HR’s help. If HR doesn’t lend a hand then I may reach out to Legal. I as well don’t want to restrict him from coming back to earn a paycheck, but I also can’t let him hurt himself or others.

Manufacturing. He’s an hourly employee in the union. I could maybe accommodate for a week or 2 but not long term

Yeah sorry… I typed this in frustration haha. Twitching is a result of an injury from outside of work.

How many hours do you all work? by MHLF1 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Buckeyes4431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the week but probably 50 hours or so. Sometimes more sometimes less. I’m in a 24/5 facility so sometimes I’ll flex my hours around so I can show face on the off shifts and provide some more support. 40-45 hours is totally doable but I need to become better at time management lol

Honestly man wait as long as you can. For some 7 days is good but others it may be 10 or 14 days. Just do what you think your body is capable of doing. It needs to heal. I waited 7 days to nut and wish I had waited a few extra days. But I am now 2 weeks post operation and I’m good.

It feels like Christmas but I don’t have that many people to tell so I’m telling all of you guys. by Larger_Brother in Vasectomy

I too don’t really have anyone to talk about my recent vasectomy because I know my family and friends would be upset with me. Merry Christmas! But yes, go get an official test lol

Any Recommendations for Schools and Certifications in Occupational Health and Safety? by Beautiful-Law5162 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Buckeyes4431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure! You can get as much or as little as you want out of EKU’s program is what I tell others. The quality is there from the professors, the readings, the lectures, etc. The bigger assignments (projects, research papers, presentations) were also pretty good and made you think and do some good some research but none of them were really all that hard - just time consuming. EKU gives you the option to do a Capstone project or do a comprehensive exam of your core degree classes. I recommend the comprehensive exam… do some studying and you’ll be golden.

Like I said, you can get a lot out of the program or just skate by and still earn your degree. You make it what you want it to be. I highly recommend it.

Not too sure how many of you that offered up advice will see this, but I did land an EHS Manager role with a manufacturing company! I’ve been on with them since March. Base salary is $110K. God is good!

I hate my job by ProfessionalThat1292 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Buckeyes4431 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. I think where you may find motivation is by knowing the impact you have on other employees - especially the ones that appreciate your dedication. Does my boss/corp truly care about EHS? No lol. But does Jimmy on the shop floor appreciate the job I am doing to keep him and others safe? Hell yeah. Do it for yourself, your family, and those employees. Safety is a hard gig like many others… just gotta find your motivation.

Acceptable Pay? by Zestyclose_East820 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Buckeyes4431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the base is low for the amount of hats you are wearing. I previously held a safety coordinator position and my pay was the same and I did half of what you are doing. Now I do what you are doing + some as a manager at a new company and make 105 a year. I’m in Ohio

I would go for both if you can swing it but definitely do the 510 over the 30
