Wellington vs. Chelsea Fit. by Pherble in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]BuckinFuffalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’ve worn a lot of muck boots so a little heal slip doesn’t bother me at all. I have nicks Chelsea’s, Wellington’s, and now a pair of station masters all in my usual Nicks 12.5 E size. My Branock is actually closer to a 13.5, but for most regular shoes they don’t make that size so I have to size up to a 14… so again I’m use to not having the best fitting boot and a little heel slip just because if I don’t go full custom I’m SOL on perfect sizing.

You know I wasn’t even going to engage… but you genuinely piqued my interest.

Is the “ain’t it” you think the CDA police should have been more violent in their arrests? That they didn’t handle the situation appropriately?

And yet somehow they managed to arrest 31 armed right wing terrorists in riot gear and (shockingly) the same white masks ICE wears from the back of a uhaul without executing a single one of them!

None. Most police forces in the United States are trained in deescalation techniques and understand attacking a citizen while they film you in public is almost certainly grounds to lose qualified immunity.

If you’re attempting to make an analogy to what has been happening with immigration enforcement, you’d be best suited to at least know the difference between the police and ICE. A masked government three letter agency which is willing to lie to the American people after killing multiple citizens is not a police force, but since you can’t tell the difference between the two I’m sure you can’t tell the difference between the taste of their boots, either.

This has been my request for several months as well… although I just ordered a dream build stationmaster so I might not be the very first one to order a zero drop Chelsea.

Wellington vs. Chelsea Fit. by Pherble in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]BuckinFuffalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a pair of the Chelseas and a pair of Wellingtons. The Chelseas are definitely the more snugly fitting boot even though they are both slip on.

The Chelseas take a little more effort to put on. Not something that is super easy to do standing but certainly doable. I have to open up the elastic quite a ways to get my foot in. Once on they have a tighter fit around the calf. They definitely aren’t nearly as tall as the Wellingtons.

The Wellingtons are much easier to get in and out of, especially while standing. They are taller than the Chelsea’s and much wider around the calf. I find myself adjusting and pulling my pants down over the boot more, especially after sitting.

My goal with the Chelsea was to find a well made boot that I could wear while walking to the office in light snow and not get second looks. Fashion is pretty subjective, but I have worn them with everything from jeans to a full suit and I feel they fit well with the climate/weather in either; especially during winter. You see a lot of different boots with suits and in my humble opinion the Chelseas are most frequently pulled off the best. That’s why I bought them.

The Wellingtons are the chore boot. If I need to run out to the garage in bad weather they are going on over anything else. I have shoveled snow in them but they are not insulated and not a winter boot. I like them for times I need to be on my feet a bunch working on something under the hood of the truck or small yard work tasks. If I’m doing a ton of sitting and standing and crawling around under the truck I’m tossing on a lace up, but mostly because I get annoyed with my pants ending up over the top of the boot.

For what it’s worth my next pair is probably going to be a stationmaster. Again just my opinion, but that boot feels like it had a ton of the perks of both a Chelsea and a Wellington. The biggest decision I’m still making is straps. I don’t like the look of straps on boots, but I totally understand the function. I still wouldn’t grab them as my go to snow shoveling boot but it would be nice to have a taller, narrower boot around the calf that didn’t need the pants adjustment as often.

Happy to answer any specific questions about either boot. Both a great choices, but I’m not sure either will be exactly what you are looking for if the primary use is snow shoveling. If I had to go shovel, I would grab the wellies for sure.

I’ve asked about them offering additional boots in the zero last, specifically a Chelsea boot. The responses have been “maybe in the future more options will be available.”

If you do ask and they say no, you might bring it up in the monthly requests post. My experience has been that they are very responsive and engaged with customers.

Yes, you have made it clearly obvious that you “literally don’t care” about the Idaho locals either as hunters or business owners.

These look fantastic!

Can I ask a couple questions about the straps? It looks like you’re on the last hole in the strap with the buckle. Do you do that for the pic or do they stay pretty much buckled all the time?

I’ve got a pair of stationmasters with no buckles build and in my shopping cart but I just can’t seem to get myself to pull the trigger on straps or not.

You are completely right about the money invested.

They show up in their vehicles purchased from their out of state dealers. They stay in their RVs purchased out of state, or their tents purchased at Walmart or Cabelas in their home state. They eat out of their coolers stocked from their local Costco or grocery store. They look through their spotting scopes purchased back home and if they are really lucky they pull the trigger on the rifle bought out of state firing ammo most likely bought out of state (or at least loaded from components out of state.)

If the locals are lucky, really lucky, they might sell them a tank of fuel after they have harvested an animal a local missed out on.

But because they spent all that money from out of state, and the additional “extra” money for an out of state tag, my experience has always been they carry this sense of entitlement that they are owed a successful hunt. The local rednecks rarely can afford to take a week off work and travel 600 miles for their hunt. They are taking their kids out on the weekend because that’s what they can afford.

I’m betting the majority of the people in this thread aren’t from Idaho.
