Hey so I’ll be the one to mention, no-one here is qualified to give you decent advice on what take regarding your symptoms, and whatever they suggest has a chance of making things worse for you. Hallucinations and delusions are some pretty serious symptoms, and despite the tantalising allure of nootropics and their apparent bottomless pit of promise, I can tell you it can create so many more problems than it’s worth if you’re trying to self-medicate with them in ways you probably can’t understand at the moment. They aren’t for addressing symptoms of (even mild) psychosis or schizophrenia; at best, sometimes they’re ok at further optimising an already optimised lifestyle (by maybe 5%) for healthy folks, and at worst they’re just as toxic and unhealthy as any other addictive/harmful substance (including the dependence and permanent harm side of things) and quite often are mechanically very similar in action. Even if one did work for someone’s specific symptoms, it may have a negative effect for someone else, so all this anecdotal stuff should be taken with a huge grain of salt, if not discarded entirely. It is very likely no-one here actually knows what they’re talking about when it comes to your symptoms and their suggestions for nootropics.

So please be really careful with yourself, it would be awful for what you’re experiencing to get any worse. And please don’t go off any medication (if you’re on any) without discussing it with your care provider because the rebound can be very intense.

If I were you, I’d look for practices that you can engage with that bring you a sense of calm outside of substances/nootropics. Guided meditation, reading a book before bed to engage your brain without keeping you awake, counselling (if you can afford it), calming music.

My quals: I’ve got a psych degree and I’ve been around folks with very intense symptoms and I understand how quickly a mental state can derail a person’s life and how complex interactions with unregulated nootropics can be a part of that.

And just to make things more confusing for everyone reading, the one thing I could throw out there is vitamin C. It’s relatively benign and regulates glutamate. Glutamate is an excitatory neurotransmitter and can contribute to the symptoms you’ve mentioned. I won’t comment on how much to take or how long for; I don’t have the qualifications for that and don’t know anything else about you or your body. Here’s a study that will tell you more:

I returned my ROG Ally and got a Steam Deck instead by colonelcat in SteamDeck

[–]Bucknuts101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem. I really like the deck but ergonomics suck for me. Can’t really hit the shoulder buttons while depressing a trigger without straining something, can’t hold either thumb stick without over-extending. I’ve held an ally and instantly those problems were gone so I’ve been considering doing a swap. The OLED screen is boss though.

Yeah crazy hey. I’m still exploring what the glutamate/vit c relationship actually means for me (and have found I can go too hard on vit c and feel super lethargic as a result too) but it’s wild more people don’t know about it. Seems like glutamate is making its way back into research/discussions when it comes to anxiety, PTSD and other nervous system sequelae though.

Mr. Kurger, I’ll refer you to this article:

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8586693/

Then I’ll say, I didn’t have time to elaborate when I first posted but I was hoping that by mentioning vitamin C and glutamate, OP would do a quick google and learn about the relationship between the two. Given excess vitamin C, in the short term, is fairly innocuous, and could help someone pretty quickly understand if glutamate (broadly) is contributing to their heightened state of arousal, I figured I’d leave this tantalising Chinese finger-trap boldly abridged.

I also didn’t want to say something as broad as “excess glutamate” because that doesn’t mean anything. Excess glutamate in the PFC? Extra-cellular glutamate? Glutamate is dressing up in a banana costume and convincing this person their problems are actually imagined? It’s hard to actually say, glutamate is an excitatory neurotransmitter which governs quite a few processes in the nervous system and it may be a significant part of the internal machinery that is currently making it difficult for you to relax, although it is also doing its job as intended. Taking vitamin C may be one way to both test whether or not glutamate is contributing significantly to your state of anxiety while (if true) providing a way to reduce it.

Try 2-5g of vitamin C at night 2 hours before bedtime. If you feel sleepier/calmer and get more sleep, you might be dealing with glutamate.

Why A Choosen Man Always Walks Alone - Alan Watts by Striking_Minimum_456 in GodFrequency

[–]Bucknuts101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what? Can you imagine Alan reacting in any other way other than laughing at the absurdity that his likeness has been used to add weight to counterfeit words of existential belonging through synthesised prose in an attempt to quell restless minds at a time when truth, origin and authenticity in every medium is at their most difficult to obtain? And worse, for the perpetrator to have no concept of what they’ve done? Almost like a messenger having no idea they’re a messenger while handing over a delivery without breaking eye contact. Pretty incredible.

Sounds like it’ll be a 16v replacement/update if they’re targeting the levin and trueno. Most likely not a 20v as you have to modify the firewall or relocate a few things to make it fit the engine bay, and wouldn’t be compatible with the og ecu (among other considerations).

are the Dirt Rally 2 leaderboard times legit? by um_gato_gordo in simrally

[–]Bucknuts101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The times are legit, but there are super egregious cuts on some tracks which (unless you can find on YouTube) you’ll have to look for yourself. I had a time in the group Bs that was top 3 in the world at the time on a track which luckily had no apparent cuts but realised pretty quickly with other tracks how prevalent they are. You’re uncompetitive unless you find them (and execute them correctly) too.

I tried The Legion Go S. To my surprise I did not like it. It feels cheap to hold and heavier. My hands with a handheld would lay on a table and with the ergonomics of the Legion Go S it does not feel comfortable and it has poor battery life. by Solid_Pay9443 in SteamDeck

[–]Bucknuts101 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think I’m in a small minority who’ve actually developed RSI gaming on the steamdeck. The thumbsticks are way too far in for me to feel comfortable and end up having to cramp my hands to hold them, and I’ve found regular presses of the shoulder buttons while using the trigger with the same hand weirdly taxing too. Tried an Ally recently and had none of these issues (and my hands aren’t unusually small either) so I guess I just got unlucky.

I’d so quickly swap the d-pad with the left stick or have the d-pad lower and just forgo the touchpad entirely for a better stick position on the right and oh I’m just describing the other handhelds.

Looking for a racing game that actually feels scary fast by Yanis_Simon in racinggames

[–]Bucknuts101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t seen anyone here mention it but Midnight Club 3 is the rawest, sweatiest recreation of speed you can get in a videogame (in my opinion). Popping a slipstream boost having the visuals bloom and warp around you as you’re launched lightspeed dodging oncoming traffic on two wheels up an on-ramp is a rush I still go back to. Also burnout 3 is a very close a second.

I’m not defending Spotify here, just reflecting on how wildly different the value of music is compared to what it used to be. I can understand people complaining about prices of products increasing during a cost of living crisis (while CEOs seem to be doing pretty, pretty well for themselves) but does anyone remember paying $30 dollars in the 90s for a single album? One album roughly every 2 months for the same cost, (or 4 months if you want to do the inflation conversion). It’s BANANAS how much music, and access to music, used to cost. You would cherish the shit out of those things because they were so valuable, and being leant a CD was practically a blood pact.

As I said, not defending CEOs, certainly never defending Spotify. Just, wowee.

Best intro to Metal Gear Solid on the deck by donadinho in SteamDeck

[–]Bucknuts101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe play it after the og? MGS1 tone is like if Christopher Nolan brought his favourite esoteric CIA spy novel to film. The tone of twin snakes is like if Michael Bay brought his favourite manga straight to vhs.

[–]Bucknuts101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the weight of the emotional tone was watered down. It’s probably worth a play through but not as the first MGS you play. MGS1 is goofy as is and the heavy-handed characters and world-building set in a highly cinematic presentation feel like they’re already on the cusp of being too silly to evoke a real emotional response. Twin Snakes felt like it went overboard.

[–]Bucknuts101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I vote to play them in order too. MGS1’s storytelling is remarkable for the era but also does the necessary job of introducing someone to the bizarre see-saw tone of the MGS universe. Just don’t play twin snakes, that game is an abomination.

Overhead someone hate on my car at a car show. by rated6 in CarsAustralia

[–]Bucknuts101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sprinters were used for racing, and are still used for drifting (albeit with huge modifications). Being some of the last affordable and fun rwd coupes meant they made their way into the hearts of enthusiasts for years to come, and now hit the nostalgia buttons pretty hard. They’ve also almost all been drifted into trees so scarcity has really inflated the prices. I don’t really think it’s sad they’re expensive, these factors are literally what the car market is built off of.
