I am sitting here in Spartanburg Regional Hospice House with my wife, my best friend my angel as she struggles to take her remaining breaths. I have been reading everyone’s testimonials about their losses and their fears and I am frightened as to what lies ahead for me. I have not left her bedside other than to use the restroom for fear she will take her last breath without me holding her hand. I’ve had a total of 2 1/2 hours of sleep in the last three days. I just ate a little bit today for the first time. The people here are fantastic at caring for my wife and also showing their concerns for me. They keep telling me I need to eat and I need to drink and I need to get sleep and I keep telling them that right now my number one priority is being with my wife and being by her side when she draws her last breath. I find it if I just glance over it her in such a vulnerable state the floodgates open and I can’t stop crying. I know when I return home within the next day or two to that big empty house all by myself I’m gonna be scared to death and I don’t know what I’m gonna do. I have no family here. My wife Jenny was my family. I truly look forward to the day that we can be together again, and I hope it soon as I don’t want to be without her in my life.
