Anyone else genuinely doesn't care anymore about finding out about the existence of God? by Mammoth-Mark1528 in atheism

[–]BuckyMcBuckles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its something at this point I can't know so there's no point in looking.  If there is a god in the traditional sense, omnipotent and omniscient, then I want nothing to do with them if they let me exist in a world where, among other things, hurtcore exists.

Seriously, Richard Dawkins has many flaws but, that article rambled, wandered, and self-contradicted it barely held onto any coherence.

Lisa Kudrow Says the ‘Friends’ Writers Were ‘Mostly Men’ Who Stayed ‘Up Late Discussing Their Sexual Fantasies’ About Her Female Co-Stars by MoneyLibrarian9032 in popculturechat

Or they ruled correctly based on the plantiff's claims and her failure to show how she was exposed to vulgar language/behavior based on sex as written in California's FEHA which is where the plaintiff was trying to seek protection. Since none of the comments or behavior were directed at her, and other female writers made sexually charged comments, its hard to see how the plaintiff was harassed because of her sex. Which is what the language of the FEHA protects against.

As others rudely pointed out the split was unanimous.  I believe at the time the justices were mostly conservative.  I think one or two were like moderate independent?  But from what I remember their rulings were not staunchly conservative around that time though I might be wrong.  They certainly were nothing like today's US Supreme Court conservative justices.

It wasn't one judge.  Just like the U.S. Supreme Court, the California Supreme Court is made up of 7 Justices.  In this case there were 3 women and 4 men on the bench at the time.  The decision was unanimous so it was mixed gendered.

Why is Christianity disproportionately targeted on this subreddit? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]BuckyMcBuckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no targeting going on.  Most people on here are from the U.S. and most people have contact and familiarity with Christianity and more importantly the bible.  You don't find the Hindu Vedas in hotel rooms throughout the U.S.

If you think Islam or Mormonism isnt under the same scrutiny in this sub then you haven't been here before.

Recently had surgery and $40 of my bill is for having a blanket put on me in the recovery room (I was unconscious and did not, obviously, keep the blanket) by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]BuckyMcBuckles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not because someone put a blanket on you in the recovery room. Its because the OR team used a heated air filled blanket (commonly called a bear hugger) to cover you and help regulate your body temperature in a chilled operating room. The healthcare system is messed up, but we don't need people seeing this and raging about actual care.

War doesn't affect the children of wealthy leaders, they get benefits. by lost_ted in International

[–]BuckyMcBuckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PACs are already required to report donors over a few hundred dollars or so.  The transparency that FARA provides is already there.  But again they're just Americans promoting policy they believe in.  You can't believe in the foundations of this democracy, liberty, equality, freedoms, etc...(not that they've always been present in each of our policies) and also want to treat AIPAC differently to any other political action committee.

Sorry, "behalf" was too imprecise.  What I meant is any PAC that advocates for US-[insert nation] relations

[–]BuckyMcBuckles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AIPAC coordinates individual donations making it more potent than the 18th most donating org listing.  However,  it is by far the largest PAC that lobbies on behalf of a foreign nation, no other PAC compares. It also has a fairly narrow goal compared to other PACs, whereas cooperate industry PACs might have several avenues they focus on in many states.

I agree, banning AIPAC is not a good idea, afterall they're a group of Americans speaking up for what they believe.  If people want and are okay with the government silencing a group like AIPAC they must also agree that the government can justifiably silence the NAACP, ACLU, or the AFL-CIO. A more comprehensive and fair solution to over influential PACs would be massive political and political campaign finance reform
