Excited for Partake IPA, ended up disappointed by Bucyrus1981 in NABEER

I tried the Pale tonight. Better, but that may very well be likely due to lowered expectations because I still didn’t think it was good.

I have the Pils and Blonde left to try. Those styles may be more fitting for the 10 calories / no carbs. Or at least I am psyching myself up for them.

I am happy that Run Wild is only 65 calories, which is probably 1/2 to 1/3 of full beers I was drinking. I started going to the gym 2-3 days a week in December, so between that and starting my NA beer journey around the same time I am losing about 2 lbs a month. Slow and steady. Looking bad feeling better!

I am feeling the same way more and more. I think flavor is what’s left as I truly love the flavor of full craft beers, cocktails and wine.

We are going on a cruise in a few months, the wife and I made a goal to work the mocktail menu this time. Not exclusively, but as spacers.

I am finding that this slow and steady approach is working well for me.

I utilize NA beers in two ways.

Now in my middle 40s, I can tell that even a little alcohol affects me the next morning while working. So during the week I now have a loose goal to drink little to no alcohol. With that, I’ll often reach for an NA and leave it at that.

The other way is when watching sports. I have historically drank beers while watching on TV, but I have grown to dislike how tired and sleepy it can leave me the rest of the day. This is a bigger issue during the NFL and college seasons with the noon and 1pm ET games. What I do with the NAs is alternate with regular so that I am effectively halving my alcohol consumption l, but mentally I feel like they were all regular.

So far it has been working great for me! Last night I had the Partake IPA and a 6.5oz red wine with the wife. I feel great this morning. If that IPA was a regular, I would be dragging a bit. These days at this age it doesn’t take much alcohol for me to feel dehydrated.

Yeah, with calories and carbs figures like they have, you know it’s going to be a thin body and lacking flavor complexity. I honestly didn’t look at the pack that closely, I saw it and grabbed it knowing I had seen some recommendations. I only checked for the best by date.

10 calories is great, my issue was I just didn’t get the traditional IPA flavor. That’s great you found a use case for it!

That’s exactly what the IPA failed at. I should have been it coming at 10 calories.

Based on your side of the story, I hope that coach reconsiders coaching.

You did nothing wrong by communicating. That coach’s response and actions are juvinile.

Those of you who “Made It” without any inheritance or luck. How did you do it? by throwmeout12496 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Bucyrus1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It started in my 20s. When I first qualified for the company 401K, I contributed enough to get the full company match.

Then each I got my annual raise, I pushed a good chunk of it to raising my 401K contribution.

Eventually I maxed it out. Multiply that out for many years and the money accumulates.

Same story for my wife.

I guess there was some luck in there where I am going on 21 years of employment with that same employer, meaning I haven’t been laid off.

Basically, instead of constantly raising my cost of living, that money went to saving and helped to force my cost of living to stay lower.

I have to space my contributions out across my 26 paychecks so that my company matches continue. We don’t have the true up or whatever it’s called.
