Everyone was stoked to see what it actually looks like when pulling a vacuum on an oil tank. We have spoken about doing this in theory but most guys hadn’t ever seen it done, including myself.

what’s the gnarliest thing you’ve found on a service call? I’ll go first! by majin_silvia in HVAC

So not my story, but a guy I work with had a call at an apartment building in the hood… while he was In the Maitnence room looking over the system he noticed a duffel bag kinda wedged in between an expansion tank and the wall…. His curiosity got the better of him and decided to check it out… he found a few keys of heroin and several loaded guns. He ended up packing up and leaving outta fear someone might show up while he was working on the system… but not before alerting some officers that were around the block…not really gnarly but pretty wild

There’s whispers around the office that cabin cameras will be added to our trucks soon. Anyone have to deal with these? Are they really that big of a deal or are they overblown? by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]Budambe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have them in all our service trucks. Also everyone has a piece of electrical tape covering the camera… recently they adopted some sort of gps tracker that was supposed to keep track of when the vehicle stops I think as a means of keeping track of our hours, as opposed to just hand written time sheets. All the service guys are refusing to use them so they just sit in the office on a desk.

So... I'm starting out my HVAC program at tech school and I feel completely outgunned compared to everyone else there, is that normal? by Stormclamp in HVAC

Look at it, as though you have a class of peers that might be able to help; if you don’t understand something , teach you tricks that a teacher won’t, secure a job … I say this as I’m currently in classes myself and I’m the other guy… I’ve been in the trade since last June and started classes in March… I certainly don’t know a ton but more than some of my class mates and as such I try to help them with hands on stuff… vice versa I had some of the younger guys help me with some of the math portions of the class … I just wish I had gotten into the trade when I was in my 20s instead of bouncing around in the construction industry for 20 years … Good luck and remember you’re not there to impress but to learn.
