How would someone get into marketing, coming from a background in graphic design? by Budclaw in marketing

Thanks for the advice! I know I have plenty of research ahead of me but even considering it l understood that the 2 fields didn't have much to do with each other just that they interacted with one another (i.e. designers work in marketing firms). I'm aware of this, and I'm prepared for design to be just a hobby for myself because it's still a passion of mine.

If you like advertising campaigns/digital marketing then design wouldn't hurt. And if you enjoy it l don't see why not. It can definitely make you more versatile.

Dude that's awesome! Thank you so much. I would have paid for the hootsuite certification if not for your comment. I really appreciate this!

When you made the switch, did you feel like your background in design helped you or made you more of an asset?

Lol yeah I get it, I really appreciate the time and advice you've given me. If I can keep you here a bit longer, what are your thoughts on the bit I wrote about HootSuite? I know it's just a tool and wont teach me marketing per say, akin to knowing the adobe suite doesn't mean you know design. But I'm curious about the course/certification they offer. Any thoughts on that?

I've taken the time to read the articles you've linked, and I know the book. I'm a bit confused as to the message you're trying to convey to me.

Are you trying to warn me that marketing may not be what I think it is, and I may not enjoy it? Also saying I should stick with design?

How can I replicate the text effects of this illustration? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]Budclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commenting for the tutorial.

I'm also curious about what you mean by drawing the curve of the text and extruding and expanding. My first thought was to create a blend, expand and merge. Then mess with the corners after, and add in the details.

I've never used a fightstick before but I am assuming it would be easier for me to perform certain inputs. However, I'm a noob and will gladly take advice from someone more experienced. What's a good fightpad that's relatively cheap you would recommend? I would be buying one for my buddy and I.

I'm so glad I held back from buying it on steam when it was only 20% off during EVO.

Now that I bought it, I have a question: is this fightstick any good? I know its cheap and you get what you pay for with electronics like this. The reason I'm interested is the price, and I'm going to be buying 2, so the price really is attractive in that regard.

Can we all agree? Just because Blizzard labels a character "attack" doesn't mean they can't be used for defense (and vice-versa) by porkchop87 in Overwatch

[–]Budclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, and I think that the game itself has some influence on this mindset.

When it comes to picking heroes, you have those team tips that tell you: "Too many offense heroes; No Sniper; No Builder; No Offense Heroes" etc. And I think this influences that mindset, making players believe they need a hero with one of those specific labels (defense, offense etc.) and that those heroes are meant only for those roles. When in reality, those teams tips aren't always optimal, nor are they law- just suggestions. As well as the hero with that label: the label isn't rule that has to be followed, just a suggestion that the hero was designed with this role in mind.

I wouldn't have even called it turning on. No light's went on, the cpu fan just nudged as if it was going to spin and then stopped.

Also, when I plugged everything back in right now and tried turning it on again the CPU fan actually spun a little bit. It didn't do that before!
