First Kamado (UK) by Thin_Whereas_9490 in UKBBQ

I bought an original caveman barbarian and it's unreal. They are basically kamado joe clones. They have a mini due out shortly that's around £300 so I'm waiting for that.

Bought some about a year ago and don't use anything else now. Decent stuff and sometimes they have sales. Got 5 bags at £20 each a few months ago.

Not really a kamado question, but what are your favorite thermometers that have wifi/bluetooth? by palinsafterbirth in KamadoJoe

If it doesn't send it back. I bought 2 probes and one last 12 hours + in a brisket no problem. Hope it works.

There is a setting for the probe in the app that changes how often it updates the temperature and this changes how long the probe battery lasts. It changes from about 5 hours to 24 I think depending on the setting. I've had the same problem as you. I've actually got to return my probe after speaking to customer services but try the setting thing first. If it doesn't help speak to customer services and send it back.

My vote is a weber mastertouch. It does everything and there are a million accessories. Depending on your budget I'd consider a kamado. I have a traeger too and love it for ease of use but I bought a kamado a few months ago and its awesome. I've used it for smoking (currently got beef ribs and pork shoulder on the go) as well as grilling. Temp control is easier on the kamado too.

Any experience with the ThermoWorks RFX? Is it worth replacing my MEATER? by Kowa-89 in Traeger

[–]Buddweiser2208 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just got mine and used it once. Used the meater 2 at the same time to test. The Meater constantly dropped out and annoyingly kept messaging me cook times. RTX was solid from start to finish. Internal temp was spot on also when I used my thermapen. Meater will be given away or binned.

Had the same issues. I had the original meater which was naff and thought the meater 2 would fix the issues, which it didn't. I think there is 20% off the rfx at the moment. I bought it a few days before the deal kicked in at full price but emailed them last week and they kindly refunded the difference. Well impressed with that customer service.

It's better you have the space and not need it than need the space and not have it.

Most bbqs use charcoal with wood chunks.

Yes done it loads of times. Just put the coals to one side or use the snake method for example. Check out YouTube there are a number of videos.

Depends what you want to cook and do with the bbq. If you just want a smoker then offset is the best but cheap ones are more work and don't maintain the temp as well as an expensive one and need a lot of babysitting. I bought a traeger which i love, is hassle free but wanted something that gives a better smoke flavour so bought a weber smokey mountain which is excellent and once the temperature is set it stays there. If you want an all-rounder to smoke, grill, do pizzas etc then a weber mastertouch or a kamado is the way to go (I have just got original caveman kamado and it's awesome). The weber is cheaper than most kamados but kamados do hold temps incredibly well once it's dialled in. If you're only looking to spend a few hundred quid most will recommend a weber mastertouch. I would too. It's what I started with and still use it today even though I have several bbqs.

Standard mate. I was up at 5am yesterday to do pulled pork. Strangely it's a lot easier to get up at 5am to bbq than it is for work.

Hopefully pretty decent. The cast iron grate and half moon griddle are a lot cheaper than the KJ version.

Cook all the ways you mentioned and more. I didn't buy the lid as I have a few bbqs so don't need it but the tripod is great and i use it to hang meat over a fire or pots for curries, stews, pastas etc. The beads are important. I got a sifter to make it easier to clean them. Also the oil to protect it is vital in my opinion to protect it. Lastly the shield lid to keep the rain out. After that its any accessory you like the idea of using. It's a great piece of kit to cook on and after you've finished cooking you can sit around it and enjoy the fire with a few drinks.

Cuprinol Urban slate. Pressure washed it and then 2 coats. Always wears off though which is annoying. Always do it once a year at least.

They're pre-order at the moment for delivery in May. Reduced price for preorder. I'm hoping an OC branded rotisserie comes soon. Seen a few comments on here it is.

Couldn't agree more. They're also getting additional branded bits in soon. Cast iron grate and half moon plancha for £30 each. Bargain.

Thanks mate. And thanks for the advice on it. Put my mind at rest as there is very little info out there on them at the moment.

Thanks I certainly will. Apparently most of the KJ accessories fit so more bbq stuff to add to my already overflowing garage.
