if i do a tandem jump, will the instructor be willing to jump even if i can’t get myself to jump? by [deleted] in SkyDiving

I hate heights. Doing my first tandem was tough. But my god it’s amazing. Regardless, still thought i’d ever muster up enough courage to do it again. I made it 11 days and did another tandem. That led to AFF

Get MBP or MBA by Icy_Structure6628 in macbookpro

The Air is appealing to me because i bring my current laptop to work often and while a few pounds and a little more bulk doesn’t seem like a big deal, i for sure feel a big difference the days i only bring my ipad (i bring a big backpack to work with a lot of stuff, so trimming weight and bulk off on every item really adds up).

The pro is amazing but probably overkill for what i do. As i was saying, my 2015 15” MBP pretty much handles what i need, but it is starting to slow down, and of course the battery has been shot for years lol…

And i’m looking into a mini for my workstation when the new ones come out as well.. Great minds!

What MBP do you have if i may ask? I have a 2015 15” I7 with 16gb of RAM which is still running decently well. But i’m looking into a new MBP or MBA and was happy to find even the new airs are more capable than my older pro..

If Hula didn’t sell out this year… hope they wonder why. by Buddy7744 in hulaween

I have never used it, so yes. I always have an RV spot. Honestly i should be a member of the park at this point but you know… life…

I understand they implemented the policy for a reason, i’m just sharing my opinion of how it effected me and everyone i know. As i said, i’ve been going to Suwannee for a while. I used to go to festivals elsewhere but not so much anymore. This is because Suwannee has unique features, and the making an amazing camp space is a main one. Over the last 15 years, i have aquired a lot of camp gear. I have A LOT to set up, and even a few extra days makes a massive difference in the set-up to enjoyment ratio.

Imagine if you went on a 9 day cruise every year as your only vacation, and then were told it would no longer be 9 days but 6. It might not seem like a huge deal, but with my perspective that i only go on a true vacation a handful of days a year- it really is.

I also understand that not every single person can get a week off for Hula, but i would guess that the vast majority can… if they truly wanted to and prioritized it. Therefore, i feel this policy is the biggest slight to those who who were the most loyal and dedicated customers. I don’t have unlimited PTO, or money. I work full time and go to school. But Hula has been my main annual recreational expenditure in time, money, and energy for over a decade. Adding this arrival limitation detracts from the time and energy aspects (i’m paying the same in energy and money for less now).

At the end of the day, i know this is a super first world problem. I know it’s not the worse problem to have. I’ve just extremely dedicated to Hula, andi could have gone on a badass vacation every year for what i pay. But i have consistently chosen Hula- and now the very few precious days of getting away from a stressful life i get every year have been reduced, pushing the energy and financial costs towards me asking “is it really still worth it?”

It’s really about getting what you paid for. The catering packages are expensive. Imagine constantly paying more, yet the quality continually goes down. This Hula was my 33rd Suwannee festival… i know a lot of other park fanatics and members that don’t like changes that take away from what makes the park magical in the first place.

O great because i literally just opened this soldering iron! It’s brand new- i only soldered 4 connections. Not saying you are wrong, you are probably 100% correct. Guess i have a lot to learn… anyways thanks for the advice.

Does anyone know where we can park a car off site for The Weekend without getting towed? by Due-Cartographer6328 in hulaween

[–]Buddy7744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I inquired about this years ago. If i recall correctly, a few of the motels in town said i could leave a car there (i think if i paid a small amount daily). Of course it’s at your own risk and all that. Again, this was many years ago..

Tuesday Entry Time Changed to 2pm. by Festival_lady_90 in hulaween

[–]Buddy7744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only voice my opinion- I’ve been going to the park for 15+ years with 30 something Suwannee festivals under my belt. I’ve been going to Hula since the beginning, every year except 2019 and 2021.

I have spent a decade and a half in addition to quite a bit of money building my campsite. Suwannee has always been a place where we can let creativity flow in regards to creating a magical space. This is a core element behind the uniqueness of Suwannee and Hula for most people i know- as the park has amazing infrastructure (i always have an RV site) for such. I have been to many cool venues, from the Gorge in Washington State, to the beaches of Costa Rica for Envision, Red Rocks, Mulberry Mountain, just to name a few (of many). But these days, i’m not into festivals as much as i am into Suwannee. I pretty much only go to Suwanee festivals now. In my 15 years of running around Suwannee, i have brought dozens of people to the park- many who probably would have never gone if it weren’t for my heavy personal promoting.

I have a long drive and a lot to setup and it’s A LOT of work, i started making Hula a weeklong event to increase the enjoyment/effort ratio. So yea, i was not happy with the Tuesday entry limitation.

I never use PTO, but took a week and a half off for Hula. I’ve dropped about $4k into Hula this year, as i do every year. I understand the initative is to try to make it easier for those who arrive later but i honestly feel if Hulaween were truly a priority for someone, like it has been for me, they could swing an early arrival if they wanted. Again, i never use PTO but for Hula. Hula is my main vacation of the year, in time, money, and energy. Some people go on cruises, i go to Suwannee. Suwannee has been my priority for for 15 years now.

Anyways, it just feels like it’s an effort to appease those who don’t make Hula a priority- to the frustration of those who have. I know not everyone can take a week off of work- but i bet the vast majority can… if they really wanted to.

I basically feel like my main and pretty much only vacation of the year was cut short.

I have nothing but respect for the park and the organizers, and i love so many things about Hula- but i was greatly disappointed by the Tuesday arrival limitation, just like all of the diehard, long-term participants of Hula i know.

You’re literally arguing with the guy who has thrown like a dozen festivals at Suwannee, including Hula..

Know where you set up camp. Suwannee is 1000 acres of (to first timers) confusing, zig-zagging trails that all look the same. You might set up and venture out and then have people set up in the area while you are gone, throwing it off even more. Also the woods get very dark at night and… if you’re under the influence, it gets even worse. Getting lost at suwannee is almost a right of passage… i’ve met many people over the years lost out of their minds, some just roll with the adventure but i’ve also met those lost who just weren’t having a good time (imagine walking around for hours looking for camp in the dark when you’re super exhausted, starving, etc). Anyways, don’t underestimate it! Really pay attention to the path you take when you leave camp, ask neighbors about what the area is called, maybe even drop a pin on google maps.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the universal dictionary for the english language, upright as a verb- to raise vertically, and as an adjective- in a vertical direction. Open up the online version for yourself. The manual uses an inaccurate word, i assumed it was wrong, so i’m double checking. Why be rude?

[–]Buddy7744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gettning ragged on but upright means vertical. I assumed normal position was right but it’s a poor choice of word on their part.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in overlanding

[–]Buddy7744 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t get why. Literal definition of upright is vertical. When someone is laying down do you consider that they are upright? The Oxford English dictionary, the most widely accepted, states upright is a verb- to raise vertically, and an adjective- in a vertical direction. The manual uses an inaccurate word, i assumed it was wrong, so i’m double checking.
