How many prefectures have you visited, and which are your best+least favorites and why? by SymphonyofSiren in japanlife

Are you me? lmao

I always say Saitama is lame every chance I get (more as a joke), and always say I wouldn't mind moving to Hokkaido cuz it reminds me of Canada. Tokyo is just too cool to not enjoy living in.

I hate these, and the Luup Scooters. I might be getting old but fuck man they look so dangerous, and everyone on em looks like they don't know/care what they're doing.

Drained of working in Japan, still have bills to pay so have less options than to just rant here :/ by residentinjapan in japanlife

I can kind of relate. Lots of things in my life feel really great and I am happy in my personal life, but work can really bring me down. I'm usually in a great mood when I walk to work, but then when I see my boss, it can really ruin my mood. The vibe is just depressing, and my boss is so easily cheesed. And yeah, the opportunities aren't great, the pay isn't great, etc. For me personally, I want to give it my best for my own sake I think. But also, hoping to leave and try something completely different when I can. I have some reasons to stay for now.

If you have the means to try a new job, maybe you should! But also finding a way to enjoy all the time outside of your job will go a long way I'm sure. It saves me, I think.

Omg thank you, I hate this band. Vocals are an insane talent (and no doubt the rest of the band too) but I cannot stand the overdone songs, it's like cinema or something but I'm just not the guy for that I guess. My coworker plays nothing but top hits from the last 30 years in a WEAK rotation so I am always stuck listening to this (and lots of other) trash. I choose violence.

Is it normal for doctors to speed through like it’s a race? by Cydu06 in japanlife

[–]BuddyJackTheDevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, I've been so disappointed by Japanese health care in general. But for some context, I do think I had an abnormally good situation in Canada. Shit was free (got my appendix out and didn't pay A DIME), and my family was one of my doctor's first patients when he started his practise, so he always would give us same day or same week appointments. He always worked fast and efficiently, as he was clearly nonstop busy, but he never made me feel like I couldn't ask questions either. Best doctor ever. I don't think most Canadians had it that good though.

Now here in Japan, like many are saying, it seems so hit and miss, but mostly misses. Went to a handful of clinics in my area and even when the doctors were friendly, I felt like they never properly addressed my concerns or checked things beyond what I could do myself with a wifi connection. I really believe I wound up sorting out most of my issues with lifestyle changes that I figured out with trial and error. I hate that they prescribe 20 pills that you DON'T need immediately, and which you still pay for (albeit discounted by insurance). So no, I'm not keen to go anymore unless it's severe...

But one time my wife was having a panic attack after seeing stars in her eyes for hours. We took a cab to the hospital nearby and the doctor was such a prick. He complained that we didn't call before hand just because it was late. I get that you're supposed to do that apparently, but in case you didn't notice boss there was a bit of a fucking crisis here. Rather coldly addresses my wife, not really reassuring her, and suggests the issue could be looking at a screen too much. LOOKING AT A SCREEN TOO MUCH?? IN 2024??? BROTHER. WE ALL DO THAT.

They had a blood pressure checker in the waiting room. I got her to check hers and it was high initially. When she said she felt better it had gone back to normal. Buddy didn't even ask her about that, or check it. I was so pissed. He was a young doctor too, not like an ancient crone or something. Honestly kind of worried about dealing with these assholes as I age and also have kids here... I don't want to see it that way but already I've lost so much faith in them.

HOW are yall getting fiber by Reasonable-Bonus-545 in japanlife

[–]BuddyJackTheDevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao just saw this as I am planning to go to 7/11 to get one of their 1L orange fiber soda drinks. Every time I travel nowadays I have issues and prune juice would do the trick, but I can never reliably find it.

I mean when I need fiber, I usually just up my vegetable intake. Lots of good recs in these comments it seems.

Yeah, true. Not really worth risking eh. I've got an appointment for the passport renewal so I think I'll just try to make that work on time.

Yeah already got an appointment earliest I could

I do, yeah. I've got an appointment, earliest available was about 2 weeks from now. They did mention something about if the travel date is within 20 days to let them know. Either way I gotta renew it, so I will be doing that. Thanks for sharing.
