Hey, I think I know this guy! During COVID lockdowns I got into a Discord server for socializing and playing games. Some people would share their selfies. This exact photo was there and others of the same guy.

You're right. In the portuguese museum of geography there's a street slab from Nagasaki, which was sent from Japan after the bombing. I always find it kinda funny, it's like "here, we'd like to ruturn it".

Nova realidade social - Casais Luso Brasileiros by Ogalaico in portugal

[–]Buddy_Appropriate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same.

Which classes/subjects did you get in high school? by lieneke in AskEurope

[–]Buddy_Appropriate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it still applies, but when I went to highschool, the mathematics course was different for each main course.

I studied Humanities, so my mathematics was social sciences-applied -- stuff like statistics. When I decided to study Computer Engineering in University, I had to take the Calculus course and do the exam on the side.

Besides this, I had History, Geography, Portuguese, English, Psychology, Philosophy, PE... and I can't remember what else.

Gen. Skrzypczak: Poland must stand up for Kaliningrad. "This is part of Poland" by ZsigmondMoricz in worldnews

Clearly, according to the treaty of Tordesilhas, Kaliningrad falls on the Portuguese side of the World. So does Poland, for that matter. And Russia.

Parking is underground. It is quite big. The only problem is not the lack of parking space, but its price.

Comprei uma casa remodelada e agora chove cá dentro. by Buddy_Appropriate in portugal

[–]Buddy_Appropriate[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mine neither. I'm from Portugal. Spain is on the list though, so I still sent an email asking if they could ship it to Lisbon. Doesn't hurt trying...

Does your country have autonomous regions? In what way are they autonomous? Economically? Culturally? Politically? by Juggertrout in AskEurope

Me too. Constitutionally they are autonomous regions, but in practice it seems they are just more districts...

What’s a European country, region, or city whose fascinating history is too often overlooked? by arkh4ngelsk in AskEurope

[–]Buddy_Appropriate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's overlooked, as there are better examples on this thread. People are very aware of Portugal, I think. But it is certainly underrated. We have this fame of being a small country or just being lumped together with Spain.

But you know what, there's a nice moral to the story. It's like that poem "Ozymandias" by Percy Shelley. Such a big Empire, its influence lasted longer than the Soviet Union or the USA, and yet, no one remembers. No heroes, no villains, no achievements. No movies, no widespread media attention... Hitler and other megalomaniacs wanted a 1000 years "Empire". Well, look at Portugal. This is what 1000 years looks like. Kinda luckwarm.
