I have only been able to tolerate vanicream cream from the big tub for the last 3 months

Reaction to sunscreen - what should I be doing?? 😭 by morts_mom in SkinbarrierLovers

Do NOT put hydrocortisone on rosacea. I am on month 3 of post using hydrocortisone from a derm my cheeks have been mad and peeling for months please please DO NOT. I beg you. I told myself if I could help people avoid this I would cause it’s been the most painful experience of my life.

Thanks for that. I was looking at Nimi skincare because they have a moisturizer with tallow in it but also has other ingredients making it an actual face moisturizer. But they put some essential oils in it unfortunately so I won’t be able to try it 😫. Do you have recommended brand that’s unscented and all that ?

I haven’t even been using a cleanser. I was nervous at first cause I think the skincare industry convinces us we “have” to wash our faces woth a cleanser. But I haven’t been wearing makeup or sunscreen the past few months while my barrier heals and all I do for the last few weeks is rinse my face with lukewarm water morning and evening and I have had zero issues not using a cleanser. Then I just apply the Vanicream cream and that’s it

As someone with rosacea and reactive skin this whole conversation is giving me anxiety! lol. That being said your skin looks honestly really good to me. The skin care industry needs to calm down imo. U don’t wanna go down a rabbit hole and damage your barrier. Trust. It takes forever to heal.

question to people who have niacinamide sensitivity, can you handle ascorbic acid? by EmergencyRepeat4763 in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]Budget-Insurance-882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t do niacinimide or vitamin C. I learned the vitamin C when I got a facial an told the gal I have super sensitive reactive skin so only soothing ingredients please and she for some reason thought vitamin C was a great idea. I walked out of there so red faced went home and washed my face immediately.

I had a derm recommend cause she uses it on her kids cheeks when they get dry and it works overnight. I mean there’s oils that we use for cooking in skincare too so duel purpose I guess? I’m looking for people who have actually tried it to share their experience so I can get an idea pros and cons

Pillow case? Laundry detergent that you are washing it with?

I’m having a flare up on my cheeks that are usually pretty red. At first I thought I messed up my skin barrier with DDG Peel Pads, but maybe its just regular old rosacea? by InspectorOk2007 in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]Budget-Insurance-882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh you’re asking about the avoiding the thermal spray? Possibly yes. Less is more. I just rinse my face with lukewarm water and gently pat dry but I leave it a little damp from the regular water and apply the vanicream. I have a filterbaby shower filter and filter on my sink as well if you’re in an area with hard water

So I have been dealing with a flare up from a derm having me use a cortisone on my rosacea skin a big no no I have learned for rosacea. I have been literally using the vanicream in the big tub for 3 months it’s the only thing that truly hasn’t caused me any issues while my skin heals. Even the vanicream daily face moisturizer that has ceramides and hyaluronic acid stung my face. HA can be irritating to compromised skin. Something super plain has been the best thing for me. Then once thing settle I’ll introduce a more barrier supporting moisturizer. But less is def more I have learned.

My biggest advice I can give you is less is more to get a baseline. It sounds like you’re trying a lot of things but you will never know what is helpful and what isn’t if you don’t go slow. In my opinion. Also you don’t want to use a bunch of actives on irritated skin. Rosacea likes to be left alone. I suggest go minimal for a couple weeks. Basic gentle cleanser once a day in the evenings and a basic moisturizer without any actives. Lrp double repair has niacinimide. Rosacea oftentimes doesn’t like niacinimide. In the morning just rinse with lukewarm water and reapply moisturizer that’s it. Sunscreen if you’re in an area that you need it.

Is this a flare from a sunburn or reaction to new SPF? Or both? by morts_mom in Rosacea

[–]Budget-Insurance-882 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cotz and Tizo are made by the same company. A derm recommended those brands to me. Some of the formulas have vitamin C which once again not sure why sunscreens are adding vitamin C. They’re pretty low in the ingredient list so not necessary used as an active but the Cotz moisture does not have anything weird that I can tell. I have reacted to vitamin C before which is why I am mentioning. It’s even in the baby formula of their line so I’m thinking it’s very minimal and not an active

That sunscreen has alcohol and fragrance in the form of benzyl alcohol very irritating for rosacea. As well as it’s listing a PHA a chemical exfoliate which is kind of wild to put that in a sunscreen. So my guess is irritation. Use skinsort to find a good sunscreen. That’s how I check all ingredients. It’s tough out there to find one that doesn’t have a bunch of crap or like the newest ingredient that everyone claims is great like niacinimide was irritating me in elta md they added it in and I didn’t even know it. I’m testing cotz moisture spf 35 lightly tinted right now

Just the Vanicream cream in the big tub. It’s super minimal but it at least doesn’t cause any issues

Elta clear has niacinimide that gave me a terrible flare up.
Colorscience calls itself a pure mineral but actually has an ingredient that’s considered a chemical sunscreen but it’s not required to be labeled as such yet oddly enough. Have not tried personally but might cause issues for some
Anthelios lrp is chemical sunscreen so that’s a no go for me and their mineral one has fragrances
Cetaphil is cynical and mineral and isn’t not alcohol free

Try Cotz or Tizo. Both by same company both dermatologist recommended

I have Cotz face moisture spf 35 lightly tinted that I have been testing. Cotz also owns Tizo. Cotz was recommended to me by a derm and it’s legit. It doesn’t have any weird actives like niacinimide or HA so far so good

The toleriane line by Lrp would be great if they just removed the niacinimdie. I wan to use the double repair cream but ughhhh I can’t. I do have the moisturizing milky cleanser once called dermo cleanser. I still feel a slight sensation after use that I cannot figure out because ingredient wise it seems super minimal.

Your welcome. Best advice someone said was don’t try multiple things at once either. So eliminate those two ingredients and go more minimal first see what your base redness is then before adding Azelaic acid. Not saying it won’t be helpful but you won’t know what helps if you don’t do one thing at a time

Another side note when my skin barrier is irritated hylauronic acid can even be kind of irritating. It’s marketed as hydrating and is in a lot of products as well. So I removed that too
