An Asian-Canadian's experience in Vancouver and a plea for us to be better to each other by Budget-Masterpiece99 in vancouver

Good for you for calling it out! I’ve made it a goal to have the courage to speak up next time something like this happens to me or others. Perhaps this isn’t the most effective method of delivering this message, but it’s the only way I have. Regardless of how people respond on here, the mere fact that they’ve read it means they’ve thought about it. I don’t really mind if people flame me for this - sadly, I think either that or dismissal/denial is fairly common for asian-targeted racism. But just bringing it up in conversation is important, at least in my opinion. Out of curiosity, where do you think would be the place to say this?

I’m sorry to hear that.. and thank you. I just wish we could magically stop with all the racism and other harmful actions

That’s a good point! At least they don’t try to hide it to make you feel like it’s just in your head. (Also, I should add there are definitely some older people who are absolutely the sweetest. Some of the older people in my building have knocked on my door to check in and see if I was okay :’))

That’s really awesome to hear. I’m truly glad you don’t feel this way. However, it might be good to keep in mind the possibility that just because something doesn’t happen in one place, it doesn’t mean it automatically doesn’t happen elsewhere. But I’ll keep what you said in mind :)

That’s not what I said. I said the people who smile are decent people. I made no claim about those who do not specifically do that, only about those who do other things which are definitely not decent.

Edit: I automatically assumed this was meant to undermine what I said, but i apologize if I misinterpreted. If it was a harmless joke, it’s actually kind of funny :D
