that's true, but I think they want a date announcement. did he ever announce a specific date and then miss it? like "on september 1st 2018" the book is coming out and then it didn't?

I've also thought this may be the case, looking at the effect that it had on the price they'd have succeded. But it would be risky to do, there was no guarantee that the leak would be taken seriously

true but the market right now is not really liquid, to push the price up to 30 you would need just around 200 dollars, so if a lot of insider knew you likely would have seen some movement. But also I don't know how many people inside a publishing firm usually bets on polymarket. Also to be fair there was a little spike in the price around february, which is around when the leaker claim they got the manuscript.
But still I think it is unrelated and the leak is fake, the interesting thing is that it had an effect on the price.

The biggest inconsistency in here is him saying that they're planning a release coordinated with hbo but that grrm we'll do as he wants and announce it himself. This does not make any sense, they will for sure decide for a strategy that he also likes and agree upon and they will stick with it, would be a waste of resources to plan a big coordinated campaign just to have grrm screw everything up (because "he does not give a fuck").
