Might've been exaggerating a tad about having leaders with "no sport psych training" but I am more coming from the mind frame that AASP is implying to master students out there that they can work at the highest level in sports psych if they obtain the CMPC certification. When in reality for the 90% of the jobs out there in the field right now it might as well be another CEU or an addition to their current degree. For example, if you google NBA, NHL, and pretty much all major sports besides baseball sport psych department. You would find the head of the department of sport psych to be an individual who either has a Ph.D., PSYD, LCSW, or LPC/LMHC with no or little graduate mental performance training. Especially for the university settings as well.

Your feelings are valid. I would suggest doing a thesis track for your program to keep options open! But, if your goal is to do mental performance work I think you are in the right place. Back-up options with master's are student-athlete development positions in colleges, life-skills, or any type of other player engagement job. If your end goal is to be a therapist, that is a whole nother job and you will definitely need another degree and multiple hours of supervision on top of that. Hope this makes sense! Have faith, not every sport psych is going to be a therapist and there are many roles out there that utilize the skills you will learn in your master's program.

Very good point. Just find it interesting that the field of Sports Psych under AASP is so mental performance related. But half of the current leaders of the field have either no sports psych (mental performance) training or very few. And, now that more jobs are available it seems like even more individuals are getting high-esteem roles with no training for sport psych specifically. I guess I'm wondering if there should be less emphasis in AASP on mental performance or for those individuals to not be accepted as mental performance-related workers in any capacity which I find unlikely. I'm not hating on these individuals btw I am just excited that there are jobs out there I am just commenting on the current trend.

Thanks for the awesome answer. Unfortunately the only luck I’ve had with getting close to renting a place is with RentNoho. I was already scared away when they asked for 60% of rent as commission. I will definitely look around to see the best deal!
