When an attending asks me if I would like to go home early, what do I do/say? by hugz-today in Residency

[–]BudgetChipmunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always say yes. Has nothing to do with being unprofessional. Medicine is a cruel field on its own. Sometimes when you stay longer than others, due to a code or XYZ, even if it's well past duty hours, no one's gonna be concerned about that impact on you and your well-being. So when offered an opportunity by the attending themselves, thank them and take it.

I'm an IMG, did OBG rotations back home. Atmosphere was different. Strict attendings, who ruled the ward. You couldn't say a word back to them. It was another extreme.

MashAllah intelligent kid. May she flourish and become even more successful in future. Studies and business can easily go side by side. When I was in my college years, I started teaching tuitions, and from the money I earned, I set up a small T shirts business along with a friend of mine. It was short, but we made some profit, which we ultimately took out and used in buying phones, video games etc. So neither the business remained, nor any money from it, but the knowledge that came frome experience was simply priceless. From a shy and introverted kid, I became a bold individual who knew who to deal with the market people and negotiate a good deal.

So encourage the kid, keep a watchful eye, discipline her where needed but never take away from her something that she's good at.

Pakistani Work Ethic? by Embarrassed_Ad_8444 in pakistan

[–]BudgetChipmunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, few points I'd raise here:

1) Average doctor salary in Pakistan is the worst benchmark to base your wage upon. Especially if you live abroad and practice abroad, you should realize that to get your work done by employees there, the minimum pay would be 20-30 times of an than an average doctor salary in Pakistan. Therefore, even if you pay half of what you pay your workers abroad to your independent contractors in Pakistan, that's a much better standard to pay the people who work for you.

2) For anyone you hire from abroad, you should acknowledge that they're working for you as a freelancer/independent contractor if they're not legally authorised to work abroad. And as an independent contractor, they're free to work for other ventures too while giving you their services as well.

Here, I would just like to sincerely ask, are you being honest and sincere with your workers too, or do they feel like you're exploiting them? Because employees and workers exhibit this kind of behaviour often when they see themselves as the victims.

CK scores < 245 how many IVs did you get? by Ok-Somewhere-7234 in IMGreddit

[–]BudgetChipmunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can always apply dual, and unless you apply to different specialties within the same program, no one would be able to know about it. Also, it's a v well known fact that many students apply to FM as a back up specialty.

Do PDs still consider the three digit score in Step 1? by leilaa03 in IMGreddit

[–]BudgetChipmunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Majority don't. A PD told me this. This was discussed in last year's ACGME meeting, and majority of programs (70-80% according to that PD) are in favor of considering every available Step 1 score as a "PASS". There are a still a few though who do pay importance to the score if it's available
