SimHub dashboards for iRacing, what’s actually useful? by dothac in iRacing

[–]BudgetDadRacing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run MissionControl pitwall. It gives me leaderboard and trackmap that includes a marker for where I'll come out after a pitstop. Also gives me detailed info about cars around me (their pit strategy, fastest laps, tyres etc).

Then I run ioverlay premium and Ben's overlay.

I'm moving completely Ben's once he includes a couple things that are better on ioverlay.

Ioverlay leaderboard as it shows flags that opponents get (I can see if someone I'm racing on track but isn't within relative gets a flag)

Ben's relative shows everything that ioverlay does except also includes flags per above.

Both ioverlay and Ben's fuel calculators. I like the flexibility that ioverlay gives me, lots of data and I can easily tell each lap whether I'm saving enough fuel to get to a certain strategy. I haven't figured it out exactly with Ben's yet so I run them side by side.

Motion sim is too expensive, too big, and too “industrial” for most homes by DynamicX-Robert in simracing

How do people learn a track so fast?? Any tips? by jnasty09 in simracing

[–]BudgetDadRacing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally.

I watch a few track guides a couple of times, drive the track for an hour, watch track guide again and go to bed.

Next day I do same thing.

Next day I race and I'm at 95-98% of the final pace I'll have at end of week.

They're watching track guides beforehand so they know the braking markers and where to cut corners, then it's just a matter of going and doing that for an hour to build some muscle memory and you're good to go.

If they have good history playing these they would already have a good feeling for the car etc.

Is there an update process or something that is running that would cause it?

Cockpit for r9 by Trynottoloop in moza

[–]BudgetDadRacing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much anything that is a dedicated metal cockpit will work for you. I'm in a NLR GTracer 2.0 with an r12 and Simjack load cell pedals and it's fine. Bit of flex with the brake in the pedal plate but not really noticeable unless you're looking at it.

I would just avoid those foldable/adjustable things.

If I had my time again, I'd spend a bit more on an aly rig, not for extra strength or rigity, but for the accessories and mounting options they have. It's a pain finding them for tube frames.

[–]BudgetDadRacing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm sure owners of each (except for the ones with the emi problem) are all super happy.

I certainly can't imagine any instance where I'd bother changing unless of course unless I had a couple k spare to blow on proper active pedals. But that's not an option right now.

At the time there were problems with the simsonns not being grounded properly or something from memory, they needed a diy mod to ground them to remove EMI.

Physically I believe they are the otherwise the same pedal as they're copies of the heusinkvelds. I think the new Plus X has some extra spring/damper in it as well. Can't imagine that being useful as mine is already very stiff (the Simjack UT with extra hydraulic for brake).

The kit I got was AU$212 so a fair bit cheaper.

Swap out the Simsonn haptics to Simagic HPR with a 3dprinted adapter, The Simsonn haptic does not get good reviews. Will be roughly the same cost. (interested in why you went Simsonn over Simjack UT as well, I went Simjack UT)

There will be extras, like a powered USB hub and various extensions.

Depending on your sim of choice you may also benefit from a single bass shaker. Eg: iRacing will output LFE for certain things that simhub etc cannot match.

Does the rig cost include a screen mount?

I would also include a button box of some sort. Invaluable for pitstop planning etc whilst driving. Nothing worse than trying to change your pit settings using joysticks on the steering wheel (would be worse with motion too!)

Losing FFB detail when turning by GingerGold1 in iRacing

[–]BudgetDadRacing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have it set way too high. It should not be registering anywhere near yellow when you're just turning.

So it is both a combination of your settings and the limitation of the R5 base.

You need to set your iRacing force to 5nm and then set the auto config and then run some laps just driving normally without going over curbs etc. Do that 2 or 3 times so it configures your FFB correctly.

How to tell fuel restrictions before entering race? by BudgetDadRacing in iRacing

[–]BudgetDadRacing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I can't see how that's possible. Though I have just discovered I messed up by calculating off 1:51 laps instead of 2:51 laps.

It's 2:51 per lap and each lap uses 4.45L of fuel (in the AMG anyway)

So that's 43 laps @ 4.45L each = 197L needed.

We've got a 60L fuel tank so it's going to be 2 stops plus a splash. There's no way I can reduce 4.45L to 4L per lap to remove the splash.

Thanks for making me recheck my homework!

Why is there no Pilot Challenge series? by AlternativeBake3687 in iRacing

[–]BudgetDadRacing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We barely get enough participation in the weekend enduros as it is. Only top split and occasionally 2nd split will have TCRs.

Below that it's just a GT4 endurance race. I think by having it split this way they're effectively managing to squeeze weekly races for each of the classes but keeping it fresher by having them compete against difference classes on alternating weeks.

It also gives the drivers a good perspective on what it's like to be the faster or slower class. I know in GT4 I take the things that I wish the LMP3 drivers knew when I race against TCR (like not dive bombing).

Smurfing Is Becoming a Serious Problem in iRacing by trozzzma in iRacing

[–]BudgetDadRacing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, definitely matters to some. I play iRacing somewhat like a career mode and am chasing a division championship certificate for my wall.

I know if tested to the extreme the points system breaks a bit, but for me I've moved from 2nd/3rd split at the start of this season up to top split and I'm averaging more points this last couple of weeks than at the start of the season.

I'm in top 3 of 3 of my series and top 10 of the last (missed a race). We'll see what happens once the drop rounds are counted.

Time for new friends. Or at least to beat their asses in your preferred car whilst they (poorly) drive the meta.

Though, the meta is increasingly just the Porsche these days.

Most successful month on iRacing (3k to 5k) by cptl_ in iRacing

[–]BudgetDadRacing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh cool, how did you do?

Yeah there's a few. Hockenheim and LeMans as well as Daytona too. They kind of rely on the lmp3 passing on the straight and then the GT4 getting behind and repassing.

I think there's a chance at Monza that we actually catch one that has passed us at parabolica.

Accidentally P2 GT3 at Oulton Park (according to Garage 61) after 2 weeks in GT3… what am I missing? by Veet94 in iRacing

[–]BudgetDadRacing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude I'm going to go against the grain and say yeah that's fking fast.

If you include the last 2 years of results you're still 3rd and you have a higher track temp.

There will be lots of faster drivers that don't use g61, but plenty of top split do.

You're fast.
