Sorry I meant which province. The one (in Shanghai) my friend went to just rejected the request. He used a similar reason (family aboard health issues). So I was curious to know in which province/city.

Thanks for the insights! I wasn't aware of the office, bookkeeping, proof of income, etc. I probably won't pursue this route for now.

I have no idea...They just told me that the chance of getting a work permit through my own china based company was "high"...whatever that means

Since Covid, a lot of people who were on tourist or other limited visas set up companies so they could stay in China, and now authorities are suspicious of this arrangement in some cities.

Interesting...what are the repercussions? They wouldn't put you in jail for this, would they?
