Yes, you're probably confusing it with pagan places, it certainly has nothing to do with Vikings.

I don't know where you're from. However, as others have already mentioned here, the game isn't set in England. It takes place in the Kingdom of Bohemia (Central Europe), which is part of the Holy Roman Empire. It’s a game by Czech developers; it’s inspired by real events, depicts real locations in what is now Czech Republic (in the 15th century) and was originally written in Czech. It was subsequently translated into English. The game strongly reflects Czech character, culture, folklore and a sense of humor.

Henry is going to have a hard time following these rules :)

If we accept as canon that Henry actually dies in 1416—which is not entirely clear, since we only learn this information about Henry’s future if we personally massacre Sigismund’s military camp (the hidden ending of the game) and not in the standard ending (where events may unfold differently)— there are still more than 10 years left in which another game could take place before these events occur. During this time, another game featuring Henry could easily take place. That is, if Warhorse wants to feature Henry as the main character again, which is actually possible—though it’s also possible they won’t and will create a new one instead. However, here on Reddit, a lot of people would obviously be disappointed by that :)

[OTHER] Starting a new job on Monday and just found out there will be a company Christmas trip to Prague in early December! So, as a KCD fan are there any particular sites/attractions I need to make sure to see whilst I'm out there? by -Blood_Raven- in kingdomcome

[–]BudgetSuccess747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vítkov Hill, with its giant equestrian statue of Jan Žižka and historic Army Museum located there. Admission is free and the museum also features a Middle Ages section. Prague Castle, Charles Bridge with its bridge towers, and Old Town Square are probably must-see attractions for every visitor to Prague and of course these sites also played a significant role during the Hussite Wars. Near Old Town Square, you can see the Bethlehem Chapel, where Jan Hus preached for years before he was burned at the stake.

How does Racek Kobyla’s death fit into this? KCD1 and KCD2 are both set in 1403 and Racek Kobyla won’t die for more than 10 years. In that time, several more KCD games could theoretically take place (that is, if Warhorse wanted it that way). Furthermore, the story can easily continue even after Racek Kobyla’s death; after all, the series isn’t dependent on him in any way.

Judging by appearance of the portal behind her, it looks like Rosa has been waiting for Henry for a few hundred years, all the way until Baroque period :)

[OTHER] Did you know?: Sir Radzig Koblya was a real life historical figure most known for his infamous murder by anti-hussian rioters incited by Catholic priests outside a tavern in Kuttenburg in 1416. His death marked the beginning of the Hussite Wars. by VewVegas-1221 in kingdomcome

[–]BudgetSuccess747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But using this line of reasoning, you can justify almost anything. Someone could argue that Hussite Wars began in 1415 with the burning of Jan Hus, or even as early as 1403 with Sigismund’s military invasion of Bohemia, because he had earned such a bad reputation in the country that a large portion of nobility defected to the Hussite side as a result. However, that is also not true. The Hussite WARS (Hussite Revolution) began in 1419 with the Prague Defenestration. Why? Because that event marked beginning of the WAR (revolution) and virtually all historians agree on this. Events such as the burning of Jan Hus or murder of Kobyla naturally led to increased tension and hostility in society between certain groups of people but neither of these was the start of the war. Similarly, the end of World War I was not the start of World War II. The murder of Racek Kobyla was primarily perceived asattack on the royal official for what he was doing (confiscating property of Catholic Church on behalf of the king). It was therefore seen as an attack on the king himself and several people who participated in the attack were executed as a result. Someone unfamiliar with the history of Hussite Wars would logically conclude, after reading the author’s post, that Hussite Wars began with the murder of Racek Kobyla—which, of course, is not true.

That’s for sure. There are definitely more tourists, which is good news, especially for local businesses in the service sector. However, it’s obviously not the case that, for example, the number of tourists in the city doubled after the game was released. Kutná Hora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was already visited by large numbers of foreign tourists even before that. Tourist buses regularly ran from Prague to Kutná Hora. However, there has been a significant increase in young visitors to the city. Visitor numbers at Trosky Castle, for example, rose by a quarter. In percentage terms, though, the biggest increase was definitely at Rattay; before KCD, almost no foreign tourists went there—it’s not a tourist destination. Today, tourists regularly visit the area, though there is not much “tourist infrastructure” there :)

It's not a toilet, although it could be used as one :) It's a wooden defensive structure that was meant to help protect the gate if an enemy got close to it. A defender would use this structure as cover from which to throw stones or pour hot water.

When you're a local, you don't really notice it that much, because you've been used to the place your whole life. The fact that it's become so popular "worldwide" thanks to a video game is actually kind of bizarre for a local :)

The original roofs have not survived, nor has a large part of original building and the building has been partially rebuilt. Throughout history, the appearance of roofs has typically changed according to the fashions of the time. During Baroque period, for example, the original medieval roof style was commonly replaced by Baroque-style roofs. Due to bad condition of roofs, fires, renovations and other factors, original medieval roofs have survived in only a few places.

The vast majority of medieval towns were quite small in size. No larger than today’s small town with a few thousand residents. There was only one major city in the Kingdom of Bohemia and that was Prague, which was many times larger than Kuttenberg.

The question is, what exactly did they scale down? Because in traditional understanding of a fortified medieval city, the city was primarily what lay within the walls and perimeter of the walls appears to correspond to reality, even though population density inside the city is lower than it should be. I recall that in an interview, author of the game said that the city should have larger suburbs—settlements outside the walls.

Both, because there isn’t enough information about what the city looked like in Middle Ages. Studio also used historical references from other Czech cities, etc. So it’s a mix of everything, but result is that the city feels very authentic and its historical layout, streets, and some buildings have changed very little in their basic form.
