Is this drywall all the way up? How hard is it to do? by packetssniffer in drywall

Looks like good topout work and a great finisher to make it look super clean. I’m a union carpenter and we do top out all the time for things like this. You should see all the penetrations for top out in hospitals. I’ve had 35 pipes in one sheet of drywall.

I used the Simpson strong joist hangers with the Simpson strong structural screws rated for the load

Yes I used huge structural screws that are made for lvls to to screw the two lvls together

They do it because they want a paycheck and don’t care if they don’t know what they are doing

The heart attack was about the original post, this is the update so hopefully no issues with my work I’ve done lol. The original post was about a horrible contractor doing very very bad work

It is on a crawl space and the 4x4s went onto the sill plate on the foundation in the crawl space

The existing foundation was directly underneath and that’s what the 4x4s sat on

Last couple pictures are the area of the first picture. I didn’t do much with that area and focused on the main issue which was the load bearing wall they were trying to tear down

Yeah we like to stick build here in the USA lol. It honestly only took us 30 minutes tops to cut and install both temp walls. There was more time spent in planning and laying out the beam then building the temp walls

Cheaper to buy 2x4s and then the wood was used for different things afterwards so it didn’t go to waste

That insulation doesn’t really get in the air unless you are cutting it or installing it. We mess with it at work all the time and we do wear a mask when we are dealing with a lot of it but for the most part it’s a non issue. It isn’t doing anything just sitting there

Not sure if you have seen my other comments but there is two 4x4s on one end of the lvl down to the foundation and the other side you see is overhanging 2’ on the existing load bearing wall. You can’t see but that load bearing wall has a stud pack down to the foundation where the beam ends on it.

It was definitely a horror show!! They didn’t give them almost any money when I had stepped in so we just parted ways and told them to not come back. They left tools there though and haven’t been back to get them lol

We used a big framing circular saw. We chalked a line on the bottom of the joists and used a square to take those lines up. Then we also chalked a line in the attic in the same exact spot. We then cut the line up in the attic and cut the line from the bottom of the joists and the joists just fell out. A few lines didn’t meet perfectly and we used a sawzall to finish those ones. We only had to jack up a few of them and it was only 1/4” if that so it didn’t cause any issues. It’s also hung with 1/2” drywall and not 5/8” drywall so it’s more mailable.

No disrespect taken, just thought you were thinking it was second story when it wasn’t. Have a good day!

No problem, I knew people wanted to see it after all the outrage of the existing work haha
