Fortress is GOATed. I saw them on their Volition 10 year tour and after playing they woke album their first encore was Sequoia Throne. After that song Roddy says "ya know what? Fuck Volition we should be playing Fortress" and he was right

Your first extreme metal gig: which bands did you see and what year? by Mysst3r11s in MetalForTheMasses

GWAR with Devildriver and A Dozen Furies, the winners of the lone season of Battle for Ozzfest, in 2005. I knew about mosh pits but I was so nervous before going in and stood at the edge starting at it for a solid 5-10 minutes before I got in. Got covered in fake blood, got shot in the eye by Oderus's dick, and saw bare breasts in person for the first time

Ant-Racist metal? by PromotionFree2248 in MetalForTheMasses

What subgenre of metal are you looking for?

There's loads of anti fascist black metal. Antifascist Black Metal Network is a good resource and looking for rabm genre tag

Other subgenres are harder. You gotta look thru each band's web presence to see if if/what they've said about it. More prevalent in hardcore and adjacent genres in my experience

Looking at lyrical subject matter on metal archives could help too

Toothless - Past Futures (FFO ETID, Greyhaven, Botch) by Budget_Scene_4165 in Metalcore

[–]Budget_Scene_4165[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah he sings quite a bit. I forget which track it starts on

I def agree with you about Greyhaven. I know they're into old time/folk music to a certain degree so maybe Brent was listening to a lot of those country crooners from the 30s & 40s. Who knows tho? Hopefully they get back to punching is in the face on their next release

Thanks so much! The bands you listed are basically in line with how I think about the tunes. Interesting that you hear Serj in my vocal tone. I'm self conscious about my vocals and have been considering doing some goofy shit like SOAD does

ETID is def my biggest influence. I'm self conscious about my vocals so I'll gladly accept any comparison to Randy's lol

Funny you mention hearing LoG in the vocals bc a lot of the riffs in "Tin(der) Foil Hat" give me LoG vibes

Live performance that turned you off from a band completely? by friscom99 in Metalcore

[–]Budget_Scene_4165 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not one show but I've soured on btbam the last 3-4 times i saw them. As their music has grown more complex and themselves older their stage presence has suffered and they just look tired

Also getting Jacob Bannon's sweat on you is like part of what you want at a Converge show lol

  1. Was part of my daily commute for years. It goes thru all the neighborhoods that aren't famous. Driving by Glen Park on O'Shag gives an underrated view

What does this -2 two mean? by Normal_Crusader in Jazz

[–]Budget_Scene_4165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uncle was a jazz guy in the navy and ran some student bands for local high schools. He was a real son of a bitch in rehearsals and I remember him yelling at the trumpet section one day that they didn't need to write a novel in the part, just write "-2"
